Is it plush or poor?  Being held at Delia's restaurant at Norwich City Football Club this year, so plush I guess.

Our office party has been downgraded this year - instead of being in a local hotel with B&B thrown in as has been the case recently, it's going to be an office based affair... in the afternoon.

Let joy & celebration be unconfined

Quote director get squiffy and put their hands up the secretaries skirts?

You haven't seen the bosses' secretaries, have you?

you haven't heard anything yet...Ouch

...this year, my organisation has asked us to club together with staff from local hostels to have informal, regional 'buffets'.  each buffet organiser has been asked to supply a list of names attending, so they can be marked off at Head Office to ensure they are a) bona fide staff and b) that no-one attends twice...Confused

the organiser is then allowed to spend £5 per head (yes folks, that is not a misprint...LOL), on the basis that they can keep costs down by making their own sandwiches... if they accidentally spend any more, then it must come out of their own pockets, or have a whip round.

now, my nearest 'local' hostel will be a 90 minute drive, and probably £20 in diesel...Ermm

if any Shed person can come up with a more forlorn story than that, I'd be most interested to hear it...Stern Smile

(cue Mr Chopper... who now of course works for the British taxpayer....Wink)

Wow! if you needed a definition of "scrooge" then that must be it!

Not only is the meal and wine paid for by us but the transport by Taxi to and from the event.

In previous years we also used to pay for all the drinks.

Our Christmas 'do' is at the Cabinet War Rooms. I don't see any difference to holding it at the office. All bunkers are the same I should think.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Oh, very good, very good... a resident member of the Shed, I call in most days to chat to some very fine people...Smile  while David (Atavachron) was recently rash enough to offer me a place on the Heavy Prog genre team; a move I'm sure he's been regretting at leisure...LOL

anyway, don't disturb the old Shed-folk snoozing away in the corner; they may have had one too many pints of the thick brown stuff, but they can still be a bit grouchy when roused...Embarrassed

Thanks for the cue Jared (actually I think I work about 60% for the taxpayer). Anyway, you may have seen an article in one of the redtops recently about the scandalous way RBS were still paying millions for their staff to have a wild Christmas party. It actually amounted to the £10 each that we normally get, and now we're not getting it. It's gone the same way as our incentive scheme, profit sharing, bonus and pay rise (i.e. down the toilet). We've even had a directive to refuse any invites from suppliers as it wouldn't be a good thing to be seen out enjoying ourselves.
So on Friday we're going bowling followed by a curry and getting complete r*t-ars*d.
