Scott's record company refuse to send me any more promos 8 years ago, because I had the nerve to call his playing Holdsworthian and won't recind it. His playing is less Holdsworthian nowadays

what??? they stopped sending promos because of your commenting on that? you've got to be kidding...
that's just stupid, i'm afraid.
so now if any reviewers make comment on similarities to other artists, they're denied promos?
good grief
his playing sounds somewhat Holdsworthian, if you ask me, but he doesn't sound like a clone or like he's
trying to imitate him or whatever. he's got quite a distinctive sound of his own, IMHO. which is what i like about his playing.
there's a trace of Allan's influence. nothing wrong with that, eh? it's really a compliment to his skill to even get compared! needless to say, more than a few guitarists (and other musicians, myself included) have been inspired by Holdworth's work over the years.
i know people compare certain of my things to other artists (rightly or wrongly) all the time. it's what folks do. at least, i can take it as a compliment, since most of the time it's someone really good.
he (and his label) should be honoured as opposed to upset about it.

I mentioned it to Scott when I first rang him a couple of weekends ago. Scott simply admitted his influences are HOldsworth, McLaughlin and Metheny - don't think you can do better then those three to learn from!

hey, and The Nightfly has a late night DJ (talk show but still...) which you can probably relate to, eh?
"I wait ALL NIGHT for calls like these..." (oh Donald's subtle sarcasm!)

i was referring to the title song, of course - not this one. i love that line: "She's got a touch of Tuesday Weld". ah... the Days of Wine and Roses... good stuff.
surely we date ourselves by catching some of these references!

Absolutely - but those references to another age (now it seems) of the late 50's/early 60's |

Definitely quiet tonite - how could I insult so many at the same time so that they simultaneously abandon the show and avoid joining the the usual banter in this makeshift chatroom.............

boy, it's pretty quiet here on the forum tonight, isn't it?

As I said above, i wonder what has caused this wholesale abandonment? It is good to know there is company there but with apologies to your goodself, more the merrier - often helps with the next bit of between music talk this end of the mike, or prompts a theme for the following weeks show. |

it is mighty quiet, it seems. perhaps there are some lurkers though, and certainly there are listeners who are just not here in the forum...
i don't think you offended anyone! it was empty from the get go, you know?
just a quiet night here, i suspect. in a way, it may've been just as well that you had to postpone your interview.

I agree with you - it is clear from broadcast figures there are (lots?) more than those who correspond here
