The Black Widow album was good.  It was my first listen so I still need more listens to fully appreciate it, but it definitely reminded me of Black Sabbath and/or Deep Purple at times.

Glad you liked it, I mean, glad you think is goodWink
Yeah, it does has some Deep Purple/Sabbath influence, though it's slight. Mainly because of the hammond organ and the lyrics, though not sure if in that album  the satanic lyrics are still present as in their debut, Sacrifice which I highly recomend you if you want more of Black Widow.
I just noticed by accident that someone posted a few Black Widow videos on youtube. Freaked out disturbing s**t.

Cool, I'm gonna check them out. Thx for the info!

I'm enjoying this more and more. I didn't have it in my top 5 of 2008, but I may reconsider.

If you like The Flower Kings, then I'd say go for it. Not sure if I've nailed down your tastes yet though, Pat. You seem to be all over the map by comparison to my more 'conservative' tastes. Not necessarily a bad thing. I wish I were more daring. Big smile

I'd probably pass because I'm not that much of a fan of TFK, but happened to notice that you, Scott, and Mike (and probably a few others) have played it a few times, i.e. the cover keeps popping up.

I'm getting even more all over the map, I'm starting to listen to classical and free jazz.  Tongue

Oh, and right now, inspired by Linus' choice earlier:

I've only listened to the new Karmakanic once so far.  I definitely need to give it a few more listens before year end so as to decide whether it belongs in my top 5.  Same with the Marillion.  Unfortunately for Pendragon, they are going to be omitted since I probably won't be purchasing Pure until it is officially released and available on Amazon or Itunes.  The other album that I really need to get a hold of is the new Beardfish album. I have a feeling that one might be able to slip into my top 5, but I haven't heard it yet, so I can't rate it.  Another sleeper for me might be the Brighteye Brison album.  I have only heard 2 of the tracks from their new one, but I really enjoyed them.  I really need to track that album down before year end too.

Damned Frost* album is probably going to screw up my list. I had things down so good until that album showed up

Oy!!!  That one too needs more listens.  I've given it 2 so far, and it is a good album, but not top 5 material, but maybe with more listens, and possibly closer listens that could change too. LOL

I LOVE the new album! Something about it really struck a chord with me. Every time I leave my house it's Dear Dead Days on the car stereo, or Toys... or Welcome to Nowhere... the rest of the songs are great too! I love how DDD segues into Falling Down and the almost techno groove of Pocket Sun is simply excellent. The title cut is everything that Kayo Dot wants to be (but isn't) and the final (two?) track is an excellent and moving opus. Loving it.
