Sounds good.  I haven't heard Allusa Fallax but I think you'll like the other three, they're all kinda "heavy" in different ways. Remember that Ys is a grower, I almost lost my hearing ability the first time because of that guitar soundLOL

I experienced Quella Vecchia Locanda (I know Smile) for the first time today..... I couldn't even make it through "Prologo" (the first track) without orgasming  Big smile  Soo amazing.

It seems that every time i get a new album from an Italian Symphonic rock band, it's always one of the best things i've heard all year; or ever Big smile

Listening to it right now. Good stuff Thumbs Up
Rough, intense and somewhat chaotic while maintaining a rich symphonic and emotional edge - have only found it perfected in RPI so far. That's why I love it so much.

Oh my God... 'Semiramis' is great but in LP format... In CD format is only good... Oh my God!

'Palepoli'... Yes, great... You remember my review?

'Io Sono Nato Libero'... Uhm... Well... Yes, great album with great athmospheres!

But in this moment, from RPI, I prefer 'In Concerto' by Le Orme!

'Palepoli'... Yes, great... You remember my review? Yes I do. It is difficult in some ways, yes, but the way you listen to it, the more you see of its true glory

'Io Sono Nato Libero'... Uhm... Well... Yes, great album with great athmospheres! Exceptionally balanced musically, and one of my favourite vocal performances ever. Francesco can deliver emotion like no one else!

But in this moment, from RPI, I prefer 'In Concerto' by Le Orme!

today's word:

BATTIATO, FRANCO — Fetus
Review by LinusW
Collaborator Italian Symphonic Prog Team

2 stars A bit more naive, playful and innocent than Battiato’s breakthrough and sophomore album Pollution, that’s for sure, but still filled with a lot of the enigmatic qualities that signifies that record.

Touches of the man’s background in the lighter and poppier ‘singer/songwriter’ school of artists are quite frequent, being lighter in construction, often just a simple textural backing together with vocals elaborating on top - it reduces the distancing of his compositions and gives a more personal, up-close perspective to the otherwise reclusive music I’d have expected. Fetus generally feels a lot more outgoing and traditional in that sense. The nostalgia (in part due to the samples used here) I tend to sense with Battiato is presented more actively and tangible and motives of emotion is a lot more easily pinpointed and detected throughout, making it closer to ‘normal’ song writing and structure in many cases. Take for example Cariocinesi, which is a rather straightforward composition with standard drumming and bass, with a part joyous, part ironic violin melody swirling over it. It’s just not what you’d expect.

It’s a naked record, in production and sound, and simply put, a bit lacking in depth on many levels. Nothing but drums and synth is a recurring concept. However controversial the artwork or topic might be, there’s no real integrity on many of the songs, being too pleasing and shallow in musical presentation and emotional content, creating a torn and confusing impression of it all. The experimentations - there sure is some - fails to captivate in their haphazard, unruly distribution. Certainly impulsive and genuine in intention, they too often feel like blunt and blatant attempts at proper avant-garde stuff, strewn out in a lazy and for lack of a better word, cowardly, fashion. Don’t take it wrong, the intentions are most certainly genuine, but in restraining himself from fully taking the plunge, the otherwise so effective chock effect of meeting confusion with more confusion is lost, with Battiato trying to write songs while ignoring structure at the same time and the end-result thus turns out to be that he gets the job half-done in two different ways. The omnipresent VC3 is delivering symphonic melodies, psychedelic waves and experimental effects quite freely, but unfortunately in a rather random way, making it clash with the rest of the music now and then, which further proves that it’s mostly the compositional skill that needs to be honed before the full potential of the ideas presented here can be given the life of their own the musicians aim and hope for.

Not bad, but it can and will be much better. Throughout the albums thirty minutes, I find myself thinking that if you picked out the best parts of it all and put them together in a tasty and effective way, you could end up with some ten or twelve minutes of the best material on Pollution, and that is simply not enough. In spite of being so short, it still manages to suffer from a lot of deadweight.

Fans would most certainly be interested in what Fetus have to offer, if only to study Battatio’s evolution, but the more casual listener does right in heading straight for his more interesting and refined later works.

2 stars.

//LinusW

HERO — Hero
Review by b_olariu (Bogdan Olariu)
Prog Reviewer

3 stars Hero is a forgotten italian group from mid '70's who plays heavy prog. Their selftitled only album from 1974 bring nothing new under the heavy prog flag, but holds good pieces, that needs maybe a better attention by prog listners. This album is so rare that took me ore than 4 month to find it, on Cd, the original release on vinyl from 1974 is lost somewhere in dust of time and worth fortunes for collectors. Anyway is pretty rare even on Cd, and not many listners heared about this italian band. Their music is heavy prog with keybords arrangements and nice shifts between guitar and predominant instrument keys, but don't expect to another ELP influenced album. The most unintristing thing here is the voice of Robert Deller, who is not a bad vocalist, but don't shines at all, he only sings the notes. Now the music remainds me in places with early german bands Walpurgis and Dull Knife, and on piece Knock, the manner of interpretation of Robert Deller on voice is like on any Vand Der Graaf Generator album from early'70's, he realy is one on one with Peter Hammill here. The music as I said is heavy prog but very vague in contrast with what other bands done it in that times, seams thay didn't manage to creat something realy great, that's why this album is a good one but nothing special. This band remains unknown even for italian scene not to mention the rest of the planet. Influences are from german heavy prog scene and in places from Van Der Graaf Generator and even that dark atmosphere from King Crimson music mostly in arrangements. Finaly the best pieces are Childrens game, the longest track from here Clapping and Smiling and Dew drops, the rest are only ok. I will give to this album 2.5 rounded to 3, not realy bad but nothing to talk about either. One of those bands that for one reason or other goes into oblivion.
