I also remember how F W Woolworths and Marks and Spensers used to be located next to each other. And those 'Top of the Pops' cover albums. How many kids bought one of those only to think - hang on this doesn't sound like the originals. A rapid lesson in buy cheap - buy twice. 20 dynamic hits was my next purchase - and they were originals.

20 Dynamic Hits I remember those - 10 tracks on each side of a vinyl album which was made so cheaply it was about 3 microns thick & virtually see-through

Mind you - same principle as 'Now that's what I call shte volume 400' I suppose

Believe it or not but the one piece of music most guaranteed to bring instant nostalgia is PF's 'See Emily Play'. It was played a lot over the music system of the amusement arcades I used to frequent in order to supplement my pocket money Wink.

The cover girls on those Top Of The Pops albums even looked dated in the 70s... not too sure who they were trying to appeal to - probably my Dad.

I bought this classic 49p budget ablum from Woolies:
album cover
...which wasn't as dreadful as it would first appear, was changing hands for £200 a go at one stage.
What?

in order for a woman to be able to appeal to my Dad these days, she has to look like this:

I won't knock MFI wardrobes - we made a very serviceable vocal booth out of one using some old mattresses, sleeping bags and several bungee cords - even managed to record a 'cello in it. Approve

Laughter aside though - Woolies & MFI have now called in the administrators; although, what Bob, Tony, Guigo, Dean, and the rest of us can do is anyone's guess

Aha! - I bagsee the pick n mix counter

actually, I'd just like to take this opportunity to ask those who are smarter at 'pooters than me, how do you edit the text, so you can just write 'link' for instance, instead of posting War & Peace...I've never worked out how to do that....EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

What you need to do is reorganise the counter so that 'pick' and 'mix' are seperate companies in competition with each other. Then set unfeasibly high sales targets, blow most of your budget on a pointless and ineffective advertising campaign and make three quarters of the staff redundant in order to boost the share price just before the end of the financial year. Then, get 'Pick' to borrow an enormous sum off 'Mix' so they can get in a firm of consultants to find out what's wrong, and get 'Mix' to borrow an enormous sum off 'Pick' for the same reason. Make further redundancies to save money, and get in agency staff to do what was previously done by a much larger team of experienced staff. Pick up a grossly inflated bonus, blame the terminal collapse of the business on government red tape and head off towards the CD and DVD department with a business plan and a manic gleam in your eye...

We used to call it the nick and mix counter. Can't think why...
I bagsee the hot cashew and peanut dispenser.

Oh!I'd also like the big stand-on weigh yourself scales.Don't know where I'd put them,I just like them.

Did anyone buy a 'Winfield/Woolies' cricket ball?
They were more like cannonballs!

And kick 'em in the shins with your Woolies blakeys that have been meticulously whacked into your shoes.

Ah yes the Blakey - favoured by all skinheads in the 1970's; thinking they were 'ard as nails, but blissfully ignorant that their DMs now sounded as if they were wearing a pair of Lionle Blair's cast-off tap-shoes
