I&W is very good, it just didn't quite blow me away on the same level. It's really a shame that their last 3 albums haven't been that good.

Ahem...........Last two albums.

Yep. I've never understood why Train of Thought gets so much garbage on this site. To me, it's simply DT exploring a different aspect of their music, and quite effectively I might add. I've always thought the "well it's their most Metallica-like album" is a BS excuse, because I definitely hear a fair amount of Metallica influence on Awake too.

That.

Images and Words has clear Metallica thrash metal influence.
Train Of Thought is quite clearly influenced by more extreme metal bands and groove metal.

And the albums which influenced Dream Theater's thrash elements (i.e, Metallica's first four albums) ARE NOT GROOVE METAL ALBUMS FOR CHRISTSAKE PEOPLE.

I want to scream everytime I see a Train Of Thought review comparing it to Metallica.
It seems those reviewers have never heard of Pantera or similar groove metal bands.
And for god sake, Pantera is not exactly an unknown band, they are pretty popular too.

If people on here think that Metallica used groove metal in their first 4 albums, then LMAOLOLLOLLOL

I've only listened to "Choirs" once so far and I thought "Meh" afterwards. I need to listen to KD more though.

re: Metallica, I will say I think LaBrie does a "Hetfield" vocal at times (on this track, he did that and also something that sounded a bit like Mustaine), but that's the sole influence of Metallica I can detect.

I need to hear them, but for some reason they're not an extremely urgent listen for me. I need Art Bears and other ones first.

Yeah, same here. I don't detect any other more straight-up Metallica influence in ToT than in other albums.
