I thought about that, but I haven't researched enough on the box set. Exactly what is in it? Is it all new material or all live or old material or what?


All completely unreleased material, including a DVD concert when Dagmar was with the band, so you can see "Living in the Heart of the Beast" performed live!  Big smile

All the shows that I go to in smaller places I usually opt to hang out on the sides to stay out of the swarm in front of the stage. I was watcing one of my friend's shows and he is the bass player, and people were running around on the stage and somebody actually knocked him into their guitarist and it cut a gash maybe an inch below his eye. It was ugly, let me tell ya.

Pits are fun when they're during a band you don't like, or basement shows. Yeah, High On Fire was horrible when I saw them too. Good to know you had a good time. Rumor is they'll be back in April/May. I'll be seeing that again.

Well, see- my dad got me into prog rock.  He just doesn't know it.

See, he used to play "Dust in the Wind" on the guitar when I was growing up.  He told me it was by a band named Kansas.  I thought it was a pretty folk song, and one day I bought the CBS release, The Best of Kansas (the old one).

That's when I heard some really weird crap.

A year or so later, my friend loaned me his Live at the Whiskey CD because I mentioned I kind of liked Kansas.  That was when I heard "Miracles Out of Nowhere."  Thence did my progressive rock love begin.


That's neat.

I still remember the day I fell in love with music. I had just turned 13 and my dad kept insisting that I hear some Rush because I was starting to get into listening to music (they are still his favorite band ever). He pulled out the only ones he had on the computer at the time which were Signals, HYF, GUP, and Power Windows. I listened to two tracks, they didn't catch me right away... and I decided to give one more a chance. So I went with "Red Sector A". And that's what got me interested in hearing more Rush, believe it or not, though not immediately. I just remember thinking about the song the next day and I was intrigued. That's when I was researching, saw that he had uploaded 2112 for me, and when I saw that there was a 20 minute track I couldn't believe it. That opened the door, pretty much. I listened to nothing but Rush for 5 months.


I know I'm almost a decade older than you, but cripes!

I grew up listening to vinyl and 8-tracks, probably the last generation to really do so.

My dad's music was mostly Boston, The Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and good country music (yes, there is such a thing!). 

He also wanted to get me interested in playing the guitar.  He plays (he's also a swell drummer), my granddad plays, and so many others in my family.  His other reasoning?  "Girls love guys who play the guitar." 

I told him "Hell no.  You're full of sh*t."

Well, I didn't say that.  I was 12.  I would have been punished.

When I was 14, I was bored one day, and purloined my dad's guitar from his room (as well as his Sex On Your Birthday book- absolutely fascinating read.  I had no idea there was a WET SPOT).

I picked out some songs as best I could.

Then I got some of my dad's old guitar books and learned chords.

I realized my best efforts were for sh*t.

I met my wife online back before Y2K was an issue.  I actually met her sister first.  She was much younger than me, so she referred me to her sister- the current love of my life and shoe addict- only because I PLAYED THE GUITAR.  She literally said, "Well, my sister likes guys who play the guitar."

What a world.

I just got back from refereeing my first professional football match, it was quite an experience! Thousands of people, chanting, live TV, and the match was pretty exciting as well. Korona Kielce v. CT Ajax Elite. Ya'll should have gone, even though it was about 15 degrees and I was freezing by the time it as overLOL

I agree with you entirely; I think it's just plain stupid and unnecessary. Confused

At least I learned my lesson to stay on the sides after that concert. LOL

I enjoyed it and I like Opeth and all, but I'd rather save potential concert money on bands like PT, TMV, and others before seeing them again... especially since I hardly get any money or opportunities to see bands live. Lotus Eater and Heir Apparent were actually the two best ones.

I hate the whole idea of bumping into someone else; it strikes me as pointless and immature, but that's just my preference.

Well not even common sense, it's just like seriously, they are performing their music for you, at least have enough respect to get off the stage while they're playing, let along injuring them.

Well not even common sense, it's just like seriously, they are performing their music for you, at least have enough respect to get off the stage while they're playing, let along injuring them.

It's mainly in the interest of getting the artist more into it, I get so much energy when kids are going nuts while I'm on stage. It's a metal thing. I think kids are getting into it, makes me feel better, and feel better - play better, and play better - more fun, and fun - my fav thing evar.

Haha, that's a funny story, especially the last thing you said. LOL

I got drums 3 years ago nearly on Christmas, and that's when I truly started to understand music even more.
