Deliverance and Still Life are equal 1st place for me. Wreath has taken over the "best opeth track" mantle after BWP. It's almost musical perfection. I think the whole Deliverance album is severely awesome. Every single track is fantastic, and I don't care what anyone says, the production is perfect for the album.

When I saw them in October, Akerfeldt starting off Deliverance (song not album) by saying, "The song coming up is like an IQ test. It's an absolute f**king masterpiece. If you don't like it, then you are dumb" etc etc. Although it was completely a joke and he was just doing his funny cocky persona that he does on stage, I'm pretty sure that it's a testament to the fact that the song, plus the whole album is absolute gold.

For a long time I thought I was just going nuts for them because it was something so different than what I was used to. But then I realized that I don't know a single other band that takes me on such a wild emotional rollercoaster. I know lots of bands that I couldn't stand to go without listening to for a very long time, but for some reason Opeth is just always an extremely intense journey everytime I listen to any song.

When you do decide to give it another chance, don't just play it in your car while you're driving. Sit down, and put on the headphones, lay in bed, and just listen. Don't do anything else. When you really let yourself go, you'll feel this crazy mix of emotions all within one song. It's the most ridiculous feeling I've ever felt.

Not very much into Opeth, (you know thereīs a lot of good bands out there, and got not time enough for all of them), though I like it a lot .
Yesterday I bought my ticket for their next show in Bilbao with Cinyc and (The Ocean?).
I hope itīll be a great show.Smile

FIXED!

best band to exist? yes.

now it's fixed.

You're forgetting that Arjen Lucassen is God with a goatee. Tongue

On topic, Deliverance is the only Opeth album I own, but I plan to buy more. Which one should I go for first, Morningrise or My Arms?

Get 'em all.

I'm more of a fan of modern Opeth, but I'm sure you'll love everything.

Man, I actually love that -  :hbang:- picture

What did you think of Deliverance BTW? I personally think that it's chronically underrated after a few listens. I rated it 3 stars, but I have drastically changed my opinion Big smile I tend to get that with all of their albums...

I love the album for the most part. Definitely better than the what the consensus here is. I do think some tracks get too repetitive (the end of "A Fair Judgement" especially), though some of the repetition works in their favor. It definitely took a few listens to appreciate the whole thing, but after those few listens I've been loving it.

The only Opeth album I've not really gotten into is Orchid. I don't like the songs as much and the production is weak. The production on Morningrise is nearly as bad, but I think the songs are better. I'm game for another shot, though. Actually, I don't like the debut releases by most of my favorite metal bands (BTBAM, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan, etc.) it seems.

Anyway, I absolutely love all of their albums from My Arms Your Hearse to the present, with Ghost Reveries as my favorite. Morningrise is also good, and I like it, but I can't say I love it like the rest. Brilliant band.

Also, it should be noted that Mikael is hilarious on stage.

Mosh pits at a goddamn Opeth concert? That sounds like a really weird idea...Ouch

/thread derail but related to quoted post

I actually hate drinking at a gig, unless it's a gig I deliberately want to forgotLOL
I always want to take in the experience as sober as possible and remember as much as I can.

The only time I got truly smashed was at this gig that was not only free entry, but free beer providedLOL
The band was a very terrible mosh/metalcore band.
It was held in a record store, and by about 2 hours after I showed up, I was rolling around on the carpet laughing at the posters on the wallsLOLLOL

/thread derail over

I still haven't got all of Opeth's CDsShocked

Opeth has been one of my favorite bands since I was introduced to them by my roommate 4 years ago.  It began with Damnation, though ironically that is probably one of my less favorite albums by them now.  I love it all up to and including Ghost Reveries, but Watershed has not yet done it for me.  Sometimes it takes a while to finally break an album in though, I'm still hoping for that. I saw them live once, a Halloween show along with Nevermore, one of the great musical experiences of my life!
