The Owl Service (feat. ex member(s) of Mellow Candle.)

"The Owl Service formed through a mutual love of British films and television of the 1960s and 70s, the great outdoors and (of course) the sound of the English folk revival. No retro obsessives, The Owl Service simply believe that music production peaked around 1969 and they merely seek to perfectly encapsulate the influence of the greatest albums and artists of the time. Beautiful music, simply arranged, exquisitely executed and captured on tape with authentic warmth - prepare to be enchanted by The Owl Service."

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

Mercury Rev's new album ' Strange Attractor'

I can't recommend this album highly enough! Mostly instrumental and availbale from their website as a free download. This is the most progressive sounding album I have heard released this year.

ECCENTRIC ORBIT - Attack of the Martians
http://www.eoband.com/
Eclectic, keyboards dominated instrumental prog.

BURST - Lazarus Bird
Awesome extreme prog metal (ok, not that extreme, but for some people it is).

HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE - Fields / Church Of Broken Glass
Another great release from these metal band which seems to veer more into heavy-prog and keyboards-drenched territories.

panic ensemble - leaded by Roy Yarkoni from Ahvak (an Israeli avant rock group).

Roy Yarkoni is a very prolific musician, who has a wide range of influences and acts. Now he formed the panic ensemble, which contain players on rock instruments, but also viola and trumpet, and the lead (female) vocalist Yael Kraus. Their lyrics comes from texts about panic and how to deal with it. musically they merge a lot of influences such as rock, tango, jewish-klazmer-eastern europin music, and more...
not very complicated in structure terms, but its elaborate and beautiful music anyway. recommanded for those who liked Ahvak, as well as for those who didnt like it much... I saw them on stage and really enjoyed. They published their first CD at earsay lable.

Nachtmystium - Assassins: Black Meddle Part 1

Just found out about this, I doubt its on progarchives. Apparently this American metal band made their own Meddle album (yes Pink Floyd). 2/3 of it is pretty extreme so if you don't like metal you may not enjoy this, but its interesting never the less to hear how they interpret my personal favorite Pink Floyd album.

Great that you like both albums.
Yeah, I still listen to that Sculptured album and it's still a favourite for me this year. Even made me go back to relisten to previous Sculptured albums.

heard recently three highly recommended albums from new fantastic bands (i am not sure they are listed in PA)

1-Unitopia (Australia) they have two excellent albums..latest is a 2 cd affair called The Garden

2-Lunatic Soul (a Riverside off project but much mellower--very melodic..reminds me a bit of S Wilson's mellower side projects like No Man)

3-Din Within..Awaken the Man

This topic has been brought up before but with the result of a negative response and a whole lot of confusion to me. I love prog music but I am very sceptical about some of the additions to this site.
At risk of being lynched I will state that I cannot understand where "the Beatles" fit a prog site (may as well
put the BG's here as well. The "Rolling Stones"? Metallica??.
I would suggest that Stratovarius be listened to properly by the powers that be because I cannot understand why many are here but they aren't. Is their music pop, is it base metal? No!! It is in fact very much more progressive than at least a quarter of the Artists featured on the Site. Sure they have a couple of catchy tracks (don't the beatles?).
Most of their music fits into what Progarchives is all about.
You have bands here that, by their own admission, are influenced by Stratovarius but they themselves are not here. Must be a political thing.

Sure Tolki's a moron but that doesn't mean that the music isn't good or progressive in nature. In fact the music is very good. Listen to one of the two "Elements" albums or to any of their albums barring the first three.

Come on guys!!

That's all very good (and been discussed in other places in this forum) but how is related to the topic of this thread ? If you want bands added, there are other threads in other sections of this forum.
Let's keep this thread "clean" for recommendations of bands that you would like to have other people exposed to.

Get used to his voice?? His voice is fantastic!! I listened to lamenting kiss, and i've never heard of them but that song is cool...it wouldn't be as great if it wasn't for his unique voice....
