Well it's about time someone stepped up and created a thread for the greatest metal band to ever exist! I pretty much summed up my love in that one sentence. I think their music is untouched in the metal world, for many reasons. And I know there are loyal fans out there on PA. In abundance. I never get bored of Still Life. I've listened to Godhead's Lament about 200 times now and i still can't get enough. They are yet to release a bad album! Barre Watershed of course...
What are your opinions on the genius that is Mikael Akefeldt and his musical incarnation, Opeth? |

Definitely one of my favorite metal bands, I really love everything from Blackwater Park onward (Still Life never really grabbed me for some reason). Favorite album is Ghost Reveries.

Ah, Alex, not surprised to see this thread started up by you.
And you by now should know how I feel about the band too |

Was listening to My Arms, Your Hearse last night. Such a stunning album along with Still Life and Blackwater Park (one of my top 5 albums that one). Not so keen on their post BWP albums, they just dont seem to come up with such increadible riffs or poigniant acoustic sections anymore.
Anyone else a big fan of Orchid? |

Opeth is extremely awesome, but not the best metal band ever. Still, Blackwater Park, Still Life, My Arms Your Hearse and Damnation are all amazing albums. Definitely one of the best prog metal bands out there...

I "discovered" Opeth with this album, when it came out. Didn't know anything about the band, saw it in a record shop and thought, why not get this, looks intriguing. Wise decision. Love this album, still one of my favourites by them, but then, most of their albums are my favourites... The Apostle In Triumph is fantastic and I love the solo at the end. Great song! Keep coming back to it again and again. This album, Morningrise and Blackwater Park are the ones I keep coming back to when I want to listen to Opeth (I don't neglect the others as well, don't worry...) |

I used to be totally obsessed with this band, especially my senior year in highschool and freshman year of college (2003-2004). What stood out about the band is that they had no bad songs (except Credence...god that song is boring) no matter what album I played. Anyways, I think I listened to them a little too much. Also, not to sound like a prick or nothing, but I think I've "outgrowned" (maybe over-listened is a better word) their music. Occasionally, I'll put on Still Life or Morningrise. I still respect the hellouta em and wish Mikael all the success he truly deserves.
They also put on a great live show. If you live in England, do yourself a favor and catch them with CYNIC! God, how I wished those two toured the states together. Edited by moe_blunts - November 12 2008 at 11:00 |

I know what you mean about The Apostle..., but Forests of October is the one that does it for me. Surprisingly, Morningrise doesnt really do it for me. The songs are good but the album just doesnt grab me the way Orchid and the three subsiquent albums do. |

My opinion? I've always thought of Opeth as one of those bands I should like in theory but do very little for me when I actually listen to to them.

Love everything from My Arms, Your Hearse onward ( except Damnation which I have always found a bit boring). They are truly a unique band and deserves all the praise they are given.

I have always liked Morningrise and I see that it does not receive so much credit... I feel it's probably one of the band's cult albums...
Still Life is probably my favourite (followed by B. Park) Their latest seems like a return to more melodic/intelligent forms, as I liked the previous couple of albums but not up to a crazy extent... |

Oh man, it's gonna be like seeing God. But better. Seriously though, could anyone not think of a better night than Cynic supporting Opeth? It's gonna be so awesome |

Oh hell yeah. Having said that, this is one gig I'll probably try to stay away from the front, when I sw them in May the kids at the front lookedlike they were beating the sh*t out of each other! Great view from the balcony though. |
