Although I do not only listen to prog, I personally find almost all non-prog rock to be far too boring to listen to. But that's just me. ;-)

I pretty much only listen to prog these days, although usually I don't listen to "prog" in the classic 70s sense as much. I'm more into the metal side of prog.

That would be me.
I barely ever listen to 'classic' prog anymore.
Well yeah, you get tired of 70s eventually. My prog is usually Avant-prog, which tends towards modern more.

Related: I listened to Unrest lately, and it's wonderful that there is still music that is difficult for me even after inuring myself to free jazz and 20th century classical.

Unrest is Henry Cow's weakest album. Big smile

Fixed.

Uh... no. Stern Smile

They have no weakest album.

ELITIST

My attitude is more elitist than that.
I see ELO in your sig, you LIAR!

ELO's first few albums were prog related, and I don't listen to them near as much anymore. They were one of the first entry bands into music I ever really got into, and my sig spans the last 3 years of my life. Wink

I listen to the occasional non-prog band/artist, but that's it. About 98-99% of the music I hear is strictly prog.

My elitism is different. On the one hand, I'll listen to classical (usually Russian), sophisticated pop (10cc, ELO [I prefer their pop songs to the 'proggy' ones, go figure], Simon and Garfunkel [well, they're really]), classic rock and a bit of jazz when I'm in the zone. Lately I'm considering trying to get into reggae, since I've been way too fond of the various reggae-influenced stuff I've been hearing lately Confused On the other, stuff made in the 90s or afterwards tends to bore me (exceptions: Perdition City, Fall Of the House Of Usher, To Watch The Storms), regardless of genre.

To be fair, it's getting to the point where probably 1 of every 2 things I listen to will feature Peter Hammill LOL, so I'm not that open-minded.

True elitists have no time for prog-related.

That is true of me for rock, but I also listen to quite a bit of jazz and classical music as well, and I'm starting pick up some world music. Fusion and avant-garde have been almost all of my purchasees lately. Does that make me more or less elitist? I think more.

It's not a competition of elitism; I just listen to what I think is aesthetically and intellectually satisfying and I don't care if anyone else likes it or not.

I prefer jazz to classical, generally. Though I'm not entirely sure there. I'd rather just listen to prog.
I generally prefer jazz to classical as well, as I am much bigger on rhythm than I used to be, and jazz is more suited to combining rhythm with beauty. But 20th century classical and some of the classic greats blow my mind.

You'll grow out of only listening to prog eventually. ;-)

I'm a rhythm freak, so that's understandable for me as well. And it's also the reason that Meshuggah is my favorite metal band.

Bebop is golden.
I'm even considering eventually learning how to play in that style on guitar in the next few years.

Haven't heard Blood Inside, I'm afraid, so it hasn't had the opportunity to bore me yet. More importantly, I like to think I have a range of elitism. In a Jekyll and Hyde way.

Blood Inside is much different from Perdition City. In the spirit of the season, and I am Dressed in Black.

That is true, being a 2 faced elitist is nice.
