Although I do not only listen to prog, I personally find almost all non-prog rock to be far too boring to listen to. But that's just me. ;-)

I pretty much only listen to prog these days, although usually I don't listen to "prog" in the classic 70s sense as much. I'm more into the metal side of prog.

That would be me.
I barely ever listen to 'classic' prog anymore.

Hell no, it's one of their worst albums. Dead

It's like DT's Train of Thought. I much prefer Blackwater, Still Life, GR, and Watershed.

ELITIST

My attitude is more elitist than that.
I see ELO in your sig, you LIAR!

ELO's first few albums were prog related, and I don't listen to them near as much anymore. They were one of the first entry bands into music I ever really got into, and my sig spans the last 3 years of my life. Wink

I listen to the occasional non-prog band/artist, but that's it. About 98-99% of the music I hear is strictly prog.

I think most people don't like Deliverance because it's Opeth's heaviest album. However if you're patient enough with it it'll grow on you. And I know for a fact that you've only listened to it once or twice, then add in the fact that you're not much of a metalhead.....Wink It wouldn't be the first Opeth album I'd recommend to someone wanting to try them, but I'd tell the person to get it eventually just for the sake of hearing it.

True elitists have no time for prog-related.

That is true of me for rock, but I also listen to quite a bit of jazz and classical music as well, and I'm starting pick up some world music. Fusion and avant-garde have been almost all of my purchasees lately. Does that make me more or less elitist? I think more.

I've heard it 2 or 3 times now, yeah. I will give it another try, but I just really didn't like it at all. It's way too heavy and seems like Opeth by the numbers to me (much like Systematic Chaos or TOT).

Alex, you've only heard it once or twice and basing your judgement on that?Dead
Definitely their heaviest, but damn, it's so addictive for me.
For a while I thought GR was their best, but I go back and listen to Deliverance, and I actually like it more than GR.

Well yeah, you get tired of 70s eventually. My prog is usually Avant-prog, which tends towards modern more.

Related: I listened to Unrest lately, and it's wonderful that there is still music that is difficult for me even after inuring myself to free jazz and 20th century classical.

It's not a competition of elitism; I just listen to what I think is aesthetically and intellectually satisfying and I don't care if anyone else likes it or not.

I prefer jazz to classical, generally. Though I'm not entirely sure there. I'd rather just listen to prog.

When you really don't like an album at all and have many other things to listen to that you haven't heard or that you really like, the album doesn't exactly get that many listens.

I've heard it 2 or 3 times. I might grow to like it more in the future, but I don't know; it doesn't hit me too well. I'm not really a hardcore metalhead at all; I can only take it in doses.
