Admin note:
At this pivotal time, with votes being cast across the USA, there will no doubt be some strong opinions felt & expressed over the next couple of days.
We don't stifle debate here, but all we'd ask is when expressing these views, the forum rules and regulations are borne in mind at all times.
Many thanks,
Jim Garten

Just back from the polls. The line was reasonable. We did have less voting machines than during the primary. My main complaint, lots of unchallenged incumbents on the ballot and lots of races where there just wasn't enough information out there to make an informed vote, and I'm not even to go into the amendments. So much legal mumbo jumbo that if you vote "yes", there's no telling what you're actually going to get. Peace! And happy voting to my fellow citizens regardless of your political persuasion.

Just got in from the polls. I got up there around 5:30 and maybe 50 people ahead of me. By the time the doors opened that friggin' line was LONG!!! Glad I got up there when I did.
Proudly wearing my 'I Voted' sticker.

I wonder if I will be able to obtain citizenship by the next election, in 2012.... You can bet that I will do my duty in my new country as I did in the one where I was born (with the sole exception of the years I spent in Finland, because at the time it wasn't possible for Italians to vote abroad). Coming as I do from a country where people, less than 70 years ago, died to give us the freedom to vote, I just don't understand those who don't avail themselves of this right.

Jim,
So yesterday's heated debate thread disappeared. I just received it in the form of notification messages and was surprised not to find it here. Except for your post. So I figured one of the forum rules kicked in. And it seems it 's rule 2:
"2. No Personal attacks (flaming or trolling). Keep it civil, show respect at all times for your fellow members. Disagreement, debate, even "heated" discussion is fine (though emoticons should be used to "soften" the effect of words). However, personally directed insults, denigration, etc. will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for warning and, if not stopped immediately, ejection. "
as the following posts fit the definition of personally directed insults:

Okay Hawkcwg, it's pretty clear you have 0% idea of what you are talking about. Don't need to clog this thread up with that kind of stuff. The JFF is for posting crap, not here.

while Hawkcwg keeps it civil before he gets into the "geographically directed insults" mode.
Question: who of those individuals, if any, has been warned as promulgated by Rule 2?
Thank you

I'm sure you'd not expect me to say publicly who (if anyone) has been formally disciplined or written to privately by the Admin Team.
Suffice to say, the view was taken that certain posts, and the responses to them have been deleted from this thread as they were adding nothing to what was previously a well argued & reasoned debate.

No I wouldnt' expect that. And you implicitly confirmed what I've implicitly said - it had nothing to do with the forum rules.
I've spoken against the heavy-handed censorship on this forum before, and I speak against it again now. The last piece was as well (or rather poorly) argued and reasoned as the prior one. No principal difference. Your action shows bias

Just ran the numbers per electoral vote.com's current predictions and he doesn't hit the magical number until after polls close in the Pacific time zone. I think we're looking at least not before 11 Eastern. Unless he picks off GA, IN, and MO (three stooges?)

Well, they won't call the election for Obama until the west coast polls close, but those states are deep, deep blue - the way I see it a win for Obama in Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida should wrap it up. Electoral vote says that he pretty much has solidified all the states that Kerry won (252 EVs) plus a strong lead in Iowa, so a win in any of those states should put him over the top. And a final note to my fellow (US) Americans- there are so many places in the world where oppressed people have no voice, no say in how they are governed - do not take your right to choose your government for granted - vote!

I admit that wasn't put well - some of the posts now hidden contained statements that were against certain forum rules/regulations and the responses to these (and the responses to the responses) took the thread away from the subject matter - my apologies if this was not clear.
If you still wish to continue this discussion, I'd suggest you do so by PM, as this thread is not one in which to discuss perceived heavy handed censorship and/or bias.

Something buggy about your links, will have to access them the hard way. I've heard of votesmart and our local paper and its website can be useful. My complaints aside from the amendments and the unchallenged incumbents was that there were a lot of elections I've never heard about and believe me we get a lot of political junk mail.

While part of me does want Obama to win and try to help the country out, the other part wants McCain to win and die in office, leaving Sarah Palin president and screwing everything over.
