So to all the gamers out there, what's your favorite type of video game? I personally enjoy a good first person shooter or action-adventure game.

I'll play practically anything but ironically my favourite genres are 2 that you missed from your list, point and click adventure games and scrolling shooters.

Probably action/adventure, but there are a lot of strategy games and RPG's close to my heart.

Based on my love of The Sims and Roller Coaster Tycoon, I'm going with simulator games.

It's been many many years since I've been hooked on a video game.  I think the primary cause of my losing interest was getting to a part where I was stuck and couldn't make it to the next level.  Carmageddon Carpocalypse Now and Descent 3 in particular.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

picking RPG. I'm talking about PC ones though - Ultima Underworld and Morrowind are two of the best games ever. =)

of course, Bubble Bobble is my favourite game but I can't work out what genre it is.

Tough call between RPG and Strategy, but based on my love for the Total War series alone, I'm going with Strategy.

And why isn't "Leisure Suit Larry" in category by itself?  Wink

Really proggy soundtrack too. Clap

For me, RPGs all the way. I love MMORPGs and RTS too but I don't play video games half as much now as I did when those 2 genres didn't even exist.

Long live SNES' Squaresoft games! Thumbs Up

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

How is Morrowind? I have Oblivion for the Xbox 360 which I love but I still have yet to play Morrowind. I do know there is a HUGE difference graphics wise and there are some differences in terms of skills and leveling, plus the fact it takes place in Vvardenfell.

FPS are great, but they're so overdone and sometimes get boring.  I guess its Action-Adventure for me.  I used to love to play those old lucasarts games Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, the original Sam and Max.  That stuff was great.  As was the Dark Forces/Kyle Kattarn adventures, but those were basically 1st/3rd person shooters.
I really enjoyed playing Uncharted in recent times. And Mario Galaxy was fun.

All of the above
but I voted FPS because it is what I play the most often.
Half-life series, Bioshock, Deadspace, Portal, Counterstrike, Team Fortress 2, COD 4 and so on.

I play Morrowind for X-Box.

After the first two times I played it, I sold it.

I bought it again later (for some unknown reason) and became addicted to it for a manner of months.  I realize it just took some getting used to.  I imagine if you have Oblivion, Morrowind would be unnecessary, but it's game loaded with depth (and hard stuff- so much so you might need online help to get through most of it).

Agreed wholeheartedly!  I'm not a huge RPG fan, but Chrono Trigger and the FF games for SNES are absolutely spectacular.

Speaking of FF, since I love FF's IV-VI, I wanna play FF VII badly since I hear it's one of the best RPG's you'll ever play.  Unfortunately, it's damn near impossible to acquire a copy.
