I don't know what it is with me, musically...I can listen to prog rock & metal quite happily for 6 weeks, then I just hit a buffer...don't want to hear any more...all I want to do is play classical (especially baroque) for a couple of weeks, then I'm OK again...I never know when the 'switch off/on' is coming, and am generally not in control of it when it does.... never really figured it out tbh...
does this resonate with others (the change doesn't have to be for classical...) or do I sound like a basket case??... |
It is probably good to switch up to keep everything fresh. I don't really listen to classical music, but I will listen to quite a bit of non-prog rock and roll or metal. But then I suppose that some would say that most of the prog music that I listen to is non-prog anyways.

I see by King Crimson, Pat is listening to Bill Bruford's Yes side project debut album Larks' Tongue in Aspic. I do really like the Bruford years.

Just a quick reminder, that between 2 and 6 today all U.S. Shred Roomers can get a free taco at Taco Bell.

Uh, too full from Indian buffet to bother, plus it's 40 degrees and pouring rain (i.e., no chance of the game resuming today). Also pissed about said buffet raising their price from $11 to $15!

There is a joke in there somewhere about American jobs being exported to India, and the result being an increase in the cost of Indian food buffets, but I am too dense to think of it. That and the reality is kind of sad.

It just sucks because I usually go once a week, but don't if I can justify going that often at that price.

You can fly from England to Barcelona for about £30 You can fly from Heathrow or Bristol to Glasgow for over £100
How does that make sense?

They're hoping you leave the UK and don't come back?

Although there is probably some truth to Pat's answer, I'd go with Economics 101. There is more demand to fly to Glasgow than there is to Barcelona. Although it could be a case of travel to Glasgow being generally for business purposes versus travel to Barcelona being for vacation purposes. Therefore business are paying the airfare for travel to Glasgow, and the employees are less concerned with spending their employer's money than they are in spending their own money to go on vacation. That is kind of how it works here, not sure if it is the same in the UK.

I think that this is probably going to have to be a grower. I'm not too keen on the vocals so far and I know that Dagmar is a favorite vocalist of many who criticize the singers that I like. It sort of seems like she specializes in singing out of key. Probably, wrong terminology. Probably has something to do with dissonance versus melody. I can definitely see how she would appeal to Peter Hammill fans.

Ooh. I am really liking Terrain. Is that an Oboe or a Bassoon that is making such a wonderful sound? Or both?

Dagmar is a highly acquired taste. If you were to ask me, I would have had you steer clear of Art Bears, but I certainly applaud your sense of adventure and you are certainly quite open minded.

Lindsay Cooper plays both bassoon and oboe on the record.

It was truly a CD of opportunity bought on impulse more than anything else. I figured the odds of me finding it ever again in a brick and mortar store were slim and none. It is hard to form an opinion about something unless you hear it, but I agree that most of the people who I have seen say that they really like this band are on the opposite end of the prog spectrum from me, so I also had more fears than hopes for this one. And I will say that I am liking it quite a bit musically, but the vocals are going to take some getting used to.

Only "Let's Eat (Real Soon)" from the Supernatural Fairy Tales box set, but to be honest I don't remember that song, so I guess my answer is no, I haven't heard any Hatfield and the North.
