Generally, if you don't meet the age requirement, all that is required is a bribe to the doorman and he will look the other way.  Kind of like adult time in the pool, the RIO listening period is limited to fictional designated hours.  However, if you don't mind listening to heavy prog/traditional prog metal than you'll probably like it here.

The one golden rule that must be obeyed is that the Rush bashing must be left in the Suede Room.  You don't have to like Rush, but to bash them is to get your Shred Room privileges revoked. LOLWink

I love traditional prog and I'm fond of Rush and think RIO is okay. You'll find my 5 dollars in an envelope by the stairs.

Exactly. I sent in my registration and will probably send in an absentee ballot request tomorrow.

I just have one quick question. Why is this called the Shred room?

I don't actually know.  Scott created the thread, I think because the others were Shed and Suede he wanted another "S" name - not much shredding going in here though (well maybe some bank statements).

Basically that was it.  Shed is the older crowd and Suede was the younger crowd, so Shred fell alphabetically between Shed and Suede.  That and Shredding is something done within Heavy Prog and Prog Metal, although not to the extent that is done by the non-Prog metal guitarists.

Maybe this can be the name of the next incarnation.
Though that will be a while, the posting rate here is nowhere near that of Suede.

Also, to make you feel more welcome, poist.

We already have enough shady clientele in here; a name like the Shade room would only attract more. LOL

I tried playing Strangeitude by the Ozric Tentacles, but my laptop rejected it.  For some reason or another my laptop freezes up on certain CDs.  It seems to be mostly the older ones.  It wouldn't be so bad if it just gave me an error message and said it didn't recognize the disc or something, but instead it plays the first 4 seconds and then it freezes up so that I have to turn off and reboot my computer.  Angry

I have a bunch of CDs that have basically failed - couldn't rip them, play them, or anything.  Cry

The CDs play fine in my car CD player, my CD player at home, and my desktop computer at home, but for some reason my laptop can't play them.  Unfortunately, the worst offenders are my Rush CDs.  None of the classics will play on my laptop.  Fortunately, I have Snakes and Arrows and the R30 Live Concert saved to my hard drive so I can get my Rush fix whenever I need it, but there are times I would like to throw in the other ones when I am here.  Of course, I could always save them on my desktop at home and then play them on my iPod.  Unfortunately, my desktop hard drive is almost at max capacity; thus I need to invest in another hard drive.

I bought an external hard drive and ripped all my CDs (~ 500) to it.

I'm considering doing something like that, but that could be a huge undertaking and I might need a super computer to handle all those great rawking tunes.

BTW, What type of external hard drive did you get?  Did you order it on-line or purchase it from a brick and mortar store?

Just got home from class not too long ago and ate lunch after that. I'm relaxing for now and also continuing my Tangerine Dream marathon. What's up with you?
