Hehe, what makes you think that way, loneliness?
I don't mind if you don't like my cheese, it just means there's more left for myself. Same applies to your cheddar in the opposite direction. I got a letter from the department of justice today. Apparently I exceeded the speed limit with 72 km/h in a place where maximum speed was 10 km/h. Lucky for me, the only place where that limit is applied is on camp sites and company grounds - neither of which is present on the 70 km/h road where they flashed me. Already found out that many others received the same letter, some even with the same photo number on it - so obviously someone made a mistake. Glad my heart is healthy though - thinking back of how I reacted initially... |

^^ that was a lucky one...
you are talking to an idiot here, who was not content to get fined for speeding (38mph in a 30 zone) once, but 9 months later managed to get done (40mph in a 30 zone) by exactly the same (albeit well hidden)camera....
I don't think I'm bright enough to be in the Shed...

Fortunately, at least to the best of my knowledge, that technology is considered illegal and entrapment here in the US. Although, I suppose I wouldn't be surprised if that has changed under the current administration where anything goes.

That could be true...
Jared - so far I only received genuine fines for violations of up to 8 km/h, but never in the same place.... I did get one for doing 106 once on a 100 motorway - which was completely empty as it was 1:30AM at the time. Oh my, these hidden cameras detect dangerous situations Oh, I just checked: if the 70 km/h would be genuine, all of us violators would loose our drivers license for 4 months and get fined 900 euros. |

^^I'd imagine that if they took the driving license off such an integral part of the Dutch economy as you Angelo, the entire thing could collapse around the governments ears...
sorry?? what do you mean its collapsing anyway??.... Edited by fandango - October 10 2008 at 17:23 |

I believe they did try the speed camera in the states some years ago, they had a tendacie to end up as target practice. Probably more fun than tying an old tyre around one and setting it alight. |

Lesson learned: if you try something new in the US, don't do it in the Southern states.... |

I got checked by a camera on the way home from seeing a gig with Fanny and Sleeper.
The thing is, I got all the way to Swindon and then got caught. I was not best pleased. I don't drive above the speed limit... except on this occasion when I though I was in a 40 limit and it was a 30. It's also the only area in Swindon where the speed cameras actually work and these same cameras have seen stopped being used, due to funding issues. So I don't think there's any speed cameras that work in Swindon now. |

They say that in a normal day the average Londoner is recorded on CCTV (including speed/traffic cameras) 300 times - the highways are literally a forest of tall poles with lenses on. I have been caught twice for (a) momentarily overtaking a queue in a bus lane within restricted hours, and (b) doing an illegal right turn - both these "offences" carried a £50 fine, but subject to appeal which is a waste of time going to the civic centre (town hall) to be told "tough..."
As has been discussed in this thread before, why not try the "stay in the speed limit and save fuel" theory - i have great fun with this, looking out for speed limit signs , seeing how close to 30 i can control the car (takes some concentration) , really pi**ing off the white van behind (especially in the dark, great fun as you know they're annoyed as they have full beam on and sit about 18 inches from your rear ), and think of all the money you'll save on fuel, poke your tongue out at the speed cameras (if they're working or not you never really know) and therefore avoid speeding fines!
There is a whole science about this, i even saw a car rally somewhere this week where the competition was based on how little fuel they used, the winner being the most economical, and Jeremy Clarkson's famous run from Scotland to the South West on a single tank of fuel... I'm sooooo glad I don't drive.
Saves you A LOT of money, A LOT of stress, and keeps you trim too! No gymn for me! Of course, this is fine if you live in a city or a town with good public transport, or at least with work and shops within walking distance of your home, but if you're in a rural area with no amenities or public transport... you're forced to drive. |

^ i couldn't be without my car i'm afraid - i returned to the wheel after a 15 year break due to waiting for an hour at wet cold bus stops, only to share a bus with adolescent chip-throwing swearing loonies, drunks etc., (the trains were almost as bad), or being followed home in the dark by potential muggers (they could be innocent but you never know...), i also am on night alarm callout some weeks and may have to go to work quickly at 3 o clock in the morning. i work shifts and avoid the school runs and rush hour traffic, though sometimes if it's nice and i'm feeling fit i get out my trusty old mountain bike.
