The other thing is that those Yoopers tend to be Packers fan.  Of course, I suppose who could blame them.

One of my friends (old colleague actually) was from Marquette but rooted for all the Detroit teams - as much as one could "root" for the Lions, I suppose.  Plenty of success with the other teams to balance it all out, though.

No, I expect that you would not have understood that last statement.  Yoopers is a nickname for the residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula; I think meaning UPer.  The Packers are the American Football team from Green Bay, Wisconsin. In locality, Green Bay is probably closer to the Upper Peninsula than the city of Detroit is, so even though the Detroit Lions represent (however poorly) the state of Michigan, there are some Yoopers that tend to be Packers fans. LOL

Yooper = residents of the upper peninsula of the state of Michigan
Packers = National Football League team located in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Changing the subject, what is your guys' thoughts on Radiohead's In Rainbows?  I like it, but it doesn't really grab me and make me want to listen to it.  I've basically had it since it was released on CD (I didn't download it), but I've only listened to it 3 times.  I must say that the singing reminds me very much of Bono from U2.

I'm sorry Scott, but while accepting they are talented, Radiohead have never been my thing...Embarrassed

Not a problem.  To be honest, they are one of those bands that I have a hard time understanding their appeal to prog fans.  I've never really understood how they got the label as a modern prog band.  I suppose that you take U2 and add some strings or some electronica and voila you have a prog band.  What I said in my initial post kind of applies to them as a whole.  I don't mind them.  The music is OK, but they just don't grab me and make me want to listen to them.

Probably a long-winded version of saying "I accept that they are talented but they aren't my thing".

One thing I *will* say for Radiohead is that over the past 10-12 years, when the whole concept of Prog has been at a really low ebb in the UK, and it's struggled to get any form of coverage within the mainstream media, I have seen quite a number of music mag covers which have run titles like 'Radiohead are the new Pink Floyd' or 'Radiohead, the true heirs of progressive rock'...

now on one level, that annoys me because during that time, bands like Porcupine Tree, IQ and even Marillion have been knocking out strong albums within the UK, which have gone completely unnoticed, however rightly or wrongly, Radiohead do seam to have kept the Prog tag (albeit tenuously) alive in this country, where the genre is now seeing something of a small revival...Big%20smile

I do love OK Computer and think that's an outstanding album, but people also raved about their later albums.  So I bought Kid A and just couldn't get into it.  They seemed to have gone in a direction that I can't appreciate, but obviously many others love it.

I sort of feel the same way about OK Computer that I feel about In Rainbows.   It is OK, but it is just not as good as I had hoped it would be/expected it to be.  It very well could be all of the "hype" about this modern "progressive" rock band and how they are the heirs to progressive rock music so I expect to hear Yes or ELP and instead I hear what I perceive as a melancholic version of U2.  It isn't that I dislike the music, because I like it, I just don't like it as much as I think I should.

Yep, I definitely like that one Jared.  For a while, that would be my response to any newbie who asked for a prog metal recommendation.

James must have had too much of his favorite libation and fell asleep on the couch, hence no answer was provided.

I don't know about James, but I just like a nice premium lager. I can't stand beer like Busch, Coors, Budweiser, etc. I like really nice beers.

They did serve these drinks while in the Bahamas called Coco Loco that were DDDDDAAAAAMMMNNNNN tasty!!!!

Good morning my fine progging friends.  It seems that whatever gene that we all seem to have that makes us like progressive rock music makes us prefer higher quality beers as well.  The taste buds in our ears must have an effect on the taste buds in our mouths.
