I always vote Zappa, though obviously with due respect to the others.

Many goodies listed, but I went with my buddy Miles, so technically I voted for Coltrane too....and Sonny....and so many other incredible artists. But, anyways. Miles was a genius and has many great works to show for it. Be they early cool or late funk. The man knew how to make music, and always knew who to pick to play with him.

Aside from that he was a revolutionary on that sweet trumpet of his, and was one crazy m"""""f"""""

I know. How could you?
Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

I had a hard time choosing between Yes and King Crimson, but I decided that King Crimson has more material that I like. Sorry Yes, you are still awesome!

Okay, I know there's amazing music on this list, but how can I be the only one to vote for John Coltrane?  Sure he's not Prog, but then considering that Miles Davis is an option.... I voted for him particularly for his A Love Supreme album (possibly my fave jazz album of all).  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_ZkouCP6x8&feature=related

Yes. KC, Zappa and The Mars Volta are interesting, though.

Out of these, YES. But I think TMA's DitC is more preferable to TfTO and Relayer

going against your own user name huh?

King Crimson has the cooler name, but Miles has the better music.
