Topic: The PA ProgBand Elimination Series: Preliminary Posted: October 03 2008 at 15:09 |
Okay, I figured we need a new game around these parts and it'd be great to get some really heavy participation.
Instead of starting the game with bands that I'd choose, I figured I should let you guys suggest some of your favorite prog bands to be included (or any prog band that you want, really, doesn't matter).
Here is the protocol for this poll/process: 1. You are allowed to suggest 2 bands in your post for inclusion in the game; these will fill empty spots in the poll options. Once 11 more people have used their full suggestions (since I'm suggesting 2 as well), then the "Other" spot will be there for others to throw out other bands to be included in this game. 2. You may only vote for 1, however, as I'm not including multiple votes for reasons that most of you know, as it really has the potential to screw with the data.
Succinct version: Feel free to suggest 1 or 2 bands for inclusion in this game. You may only vote for 1 band that you suggest or one that is already included. Your vote does NOT have to be for the 2 you suggest.
The actual game will be posted as soon as the results from this are tallied and I compile the list of bands to compete for the first round. This game will be similar to those elimination games you may have seen before where all of the bands' albums start out with so many points and you have options of keeping the ones you favor and knocking out the ones you don't like.
Feedback will be extremely appreciated, in respect for bands to be included and for anything involving this game I'm going to be holding in this Just for Fun section for a while.
***This has NO connection with the completely unrelated "PA's Battle to Stardom" tournament I'm also currently holding in the Prog Polls section.***
NOTE: (I edited this in after a few minutes of posting) Let's strictly keep this game in the series to prog BANDS rather than solo artists, since I may do something with that later.

I will start my 2 suggestions with Magma and Henry Cow, for an interesting start.
You may suggest any band you'd like, so long as it is a PROG band.
Prog-related and Proto-Prog bands may NOT be suggested or included for this.
**Solo artists also may NOT be suggested for inclusion, since I may specify different rules regarding that with a different game in the series at a later date.**

Klaus Schulze and Robert Wyatt.
Sorry for deleting my post earlier, I thought you mentioned specifically bands, not artists as well.

Well, I was thinking about that... In fact, let me edit the rules, since you just gave me an idea. Let's keep it strictly to bands this time around, I think I may do a solo artist one or something with a different theme next time around. Sorry for the initial confusion. You may suggest 2 new bands for your suggestions now, since I've cleared that up. I appreciate the input! Hold onto those two previous suggestions of yours though for something that I might do later. Thanks for giving me the idea.

Haha, thanks. Again, my apologies for that confusion at first. I'll add them at once and then you can make your vote at any time before the poll is closed (but I'll warn as that gets closer later, I want to give this some time for responses first, obviously).

I did expect you to say Tangerine Dream as one of your suggestions though, so that caught me off guard.
|
I did suggest them back a while, in another band-battle poll (you're not the first one nor the last, you know ), and they lost, and my feelings were hurt, so...

Well, you could have given them a second chance.

Added all of those for you. Thanks! Their spot is not entirely secure, by the way, so that's what the voting is for. They do have quite a good chance though so long as they're not heavily outnumbered.

VdGG are my favorite band overall, but I've been digging Can more lately so I voted for them.

Well, I'm listening to Dream Theater now, so I'll go for them. Between The Buried and Me as well.
