Personally, I love it, but unlike most prog rock fans I've always liked Asia so that doesn't mean much. I enjoy the music that they did perform, rather than lament how great the music might have been that they could have performed. |
Agree with you ...John Wetton never sang better than with Asia.................Phoenix is good, some good songs, some so-so of course, but it is pleasant listening overall! |
I listened to Phoenix the other day and really enjoy it. Makes me realize how good that era is over the Payne. Were they prog? Not really; but as a teenager when the debut was released it just really appealed to me. I just about wore a groove into the LP version of Alpha. Still my favorite. E

I like both eras. I think that Wetton has a better voice than Payne, but I like Payne's voice too. I've only seen them live once, and that was during the Aura tour. It was a good show, and I really like that album. Silent Nation was pretty good too, but I was disappointed that they didn't stick with the beginning with A ending with A formula in their album titles; not that that has any effect on the music at all.

And now moving on to a first time listen. I've kind of been putting this off because things that I have read made this sound like a PT album that I wouldn't enjoy.

Saga - 10,000 Days. Saga has really come back strong with three excellent albums in a row, Network, Trust and Days, after a string of somewhat disappointing albums. Too bad that Sadler has now left the band. But at least he went out on a high note.

Back to back cool album posts. Moving Pictures is quite probably my favorite album of all-time and I have the Saga album with me today and suspect that I will put it on following the PT album.

I enjoy all 3, but Network just kills. "Don't Make A Sound" is one of their coolest songs! And Sadler is a freak of nature. Guy sounds better today than he did 25 years ago. Do you have Worlds Apart Live on CD and/or DVD. Not to be missed. I listened to Sadler's Clear this morning. Very nice solo effort. E

I have Worlds Apart Live on DVD. Excellent!
I've been meaning to get Clear for awhile now. It's on my to-get list, and I think next time I order CDs I'll track down a copy. I agree, love all three, but Network is a killer album, and my favorite of the three.

Wake me up when it's over. It's not really my cup of tea. I'm only on the third song so far. Maitland on drums has had some good moments but otherwise I'm finding this to be quite boring.

That's exactly how I felt upon listening to it. I gave it four tries before finally deciding that no matter how much I like PT, I just don't care for that album. It's the only PT album I do not like.

I have Access All Areas and a bootleg copy of Silhouette (somewhere?) on DVD. I don't have the Worlds Apart DVD yet. I like most of Saga's albums, but I agree that the last 3 are really good. I also like the Chapters Live album. Like most prog epic stories it is kind of strange but it is kind of neat to hear all of the songs played in order together.

Agreed. Hours is probably my favorite Bowie album since Scary Monsters. Not that any of his albums since (well, except maybe Let's Dance) were slouches, but Hours is just incredible. My favorite song is playing now, If I'm Dreaming My Life.
That said though...I'll trade you hours for your bossa nova album.
