I never saw UZ or Shub etc as being literally scary, I tend to channel it into a sorta chilled out state of mind. It's weird, I kinda know intellectually that it's dark and threatening music, but emotionally I feel it as something relaxing. It's just like, when I put on death metal, I understand the music is violence and angry, it makes me feel better about myself, somewhat empowered and just makes me feel like rising to a challenge.
I would never listen to music that would make me literally worse, like pop music, which makes me feel stressed and angry listening to it.

I'm the same. ![Clap](smileys/smiley32.gif)
Although some VdGG and Hammill tracks will upset me. That's due to the lyrics though.
Oh and Wyatt's Sea Song does too, sometimes.

There is still music that can make me feel horrible. I remember last year, listening to Ripe (With Decay) by NIN while slightly under the influence, and at some point in the song, before it even got the climax, I basically said to my friend "f**king turn it off man!". I was literally shaking and crying. It's a song that I feel compelled to listen to every once in a while, because to be fair I think it's a brilliant song, but it makes me feel so horrible that unless I know soon after I have something positive to do, something to laugh at etc, I don't want to hear it at all.

Not sure if that's what they intended, but I found Repulsion (from Triskaidekaphobie) wasn't the dark ending track I thought it might be. It was kinda, I'm not sure, but it still worked well anyway, but I can't describe why, even though it wasn't as dark as I assumed it would be. Does anyone else feel the same way?

It's quite creepy and very atmospheric. Odd ending to the album, but effective on the overall Triskaidekaphobie mood. |
I guess.... it's a different kind of atmosphere to the previous two tracks, I guess that's how you feel. I think because despite not being as dark as the previous two tracks, it takes on a different unexpected atmosphere that kinda makes it just as good.

There are two moments in tracks that always get me... I mean, they always make me jump, even though I'm expecting them.
1. when the violins come in on Part 3 of Centipede's Septober Energy 2. the gun shots on Osvaldo Golijov's opera Ainadamar

Exactly.
Therefore, Triskaidèkaphobie merits a perfect 5 star on my scale!

That scream at the end of Entresol still gets me at least half the time, especially if I zone out a few seconds prior and then it almost like seemingly out of nowhere these screams grab me by the throat.

Copy 75 out of only 700 ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) I need L'Apprendista myself, actually. ![Angry](smileys/smiley7.gif) ![Wink](smileys/smiley2.gif) ![LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) I need to listen to Shub-Niggurath's debut again sometime. The version of Yog-Sothoth on there is perhaps a little bit better than the one on Les Morts Vont Vite.

You know Blowie, your Last FM profile is a bit weird. Zappa, Meshuggah followed by UZ. It looks weird having Mesuggah between those 2

I've been out the past two evenings and have gone straight to bed pretty much when I've got in. Tuesday was a pub quiz. Wednesday was seeing the ex-girlfriend. Tonight I'm home. Tomorrow, Saturday and maybe Sunday, I'm out. Monday night I may have Kim over... Tuesday is pub quiz again.
