The only time I ever used Spark Notes, other than for plot refreshers after I'd read the book, was in AP Latin when we read the Aeneid in English before we went through that year and translated the whole thing. Dammit, why did I decide to take 4 years of Latin instead of just 2?! I could've saved myself a bunch of misery and a teacher who was a bitch by just switching to German after sophomore year.LOL

Good for you. I didn't use sparknotes in high school until I needed to review books from 9th/10th grade for the AP lit exam at the end of 12th grade.

I think Sparknotes are acceptable if one reads the book, but then later needs a basic plot refresher. I don't think it should be substituted for actually reading the book.
