The Ibanez RG series are the bomb man. I remember once playing an original 1987 RG550.. it was freaking amazing.

Charvel came out with some nice US production models this year, in strat and tele shapes. Trust me, I prowl guitar forums so much, you'd be hard pressed to name a brand I didn't know I love Jackson guitars... my mate has one, so nice to play, very smooth neck and fantastic fretwork, a DK2S model (current model, still on the Jackson Guitars website). PRS is just too expensive down under, you don't get enough guitar for your dollar in a PRS in Aus. Jap made stuff is usually the best quality to price ratio down here.

I had a Japanese strat variation called a Pro, excellent knock-off with a beautiful neck and a Kahler style bridge system.. you shoulda seen this thing; had allenwrench sockets for every setting you could imagine, height, angles.. oh man, I was adjusting that thing every week, great guitar though, had to sell it just like you

Sounds awesome. Do you mean, it was a Charvel guitar?

no it was a Japanese brand called Pro (the name was on the pegboard), a cream color strat with a dark wood fretboard on a maple neck, black pick guard, it was made in the mid 80s when Fender style guitars from Japan were among the best in the world.. widsh I'd kept it

Ohh, that actually is a brand name I've never heard of I hope there is some info on the net about it, I want to research it now. The 80s produced some of the coolest guitars of all time IMO, the Jackson Soloist, Ibanez RG550, the Fender HM strat (never played one, but that thing had a 20 inch fretboard radius and apparently the neck was way faster and felt vastly different than any Fender produced at the time, and indeed still faster than many of today's Fender) not to mention the first Ibanez 7 strings coming out in the late 80s too. Heck, the Ibanez RG7321 I plan to buy, is fundamentally an 80s styled guitar. The RG design still looks basically the same as ever, it wasn't broken so they didn't fix it.

I found nothing on them when I looked, zip .. they were small, like tiny, probably a few hundred guitars scattered around the world so Hare, what is your take on 'scalloped' frets ( ah the Yngwie days), and unfinished (not varnished I mean) fretboards ?
