Well Magma have been a more recent love of mine.

VdGG are still at the top and always will be.  I was listening to some live stuff of theirs the other day and Hugh Banton was amazing.

He's the best keyboard player ever.  I'm serious too.  I've never heard anyone come close to his sound. Big%20smile

Best is certainly a relative word but I know what you mean there. He has such a unique sound and fills out every second of his music with the perfect little sequence.

Banton + Jaxon = Oh my gawd

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

Yep. Big%20smile

Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus
Killer
Aquarian
Plus some of the other earlier tracks played live with Banton and Jaxon are just epic.

It's not just the fact he fills every moment... but the sound he gets out.  it sounds like he is an Octopus sometimes... there sounds like there's about 5 keyboards playing together.

Yet he's never showy either.  He's never over-the-top.

My Top Albums list on last.fm is really unrepresentative of my listening recently.

I've not listened to Nucleus or Bone in ages.  In fact, neither have I listened to much Kronos Quartet.

It will be hard to change because you listen to so many different albums.

Though I am a bit surprised that Angherr Shisspa hasn't made its way on there yet.

Yeah I totally agree. He does sound like an Octopus often. The fact that he's never really showing up his skills with long solos adds to it. The band is like a one-sound-wrecking crew led by a voice. No musician outshines the rest. It's part of why they're my favorite band.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

I still think he's the most skilled of the two. I simply adore Banton's playing as well though!

You have to listen to Gentle Giant soon (If you haven't yet), Kerry Minnear is also an amazing keyboardist. Definitely one of my favs.

Yeah me neither, I haven't used last.fm much in the last year so it's pretty much outdated.

Nucleus owns. I should give it a listen after that album.

RIP in bossa nova heaven.

2.  Stewart >>
3.  I've had VdGG for a while, I just need to listen to them more often.  I think they're great but I don't have a Jamesian love for them.

1. Alright Pat. Smile
2. Damn, you've just stumbled on my favorite keyboardist in prog so I can't disagree.
3. Me and James have always been great fanboys of VdGG so it's not only a James thing. LOL

RIP in bossa nova heaven.
