Sometimes when I get the songs from those old Disney animated movies stuck in my head, I imagine them being performed by my favorite prog artists. Sometimes I think it would be cool if there was a "Prog Tribute To Disney" CD, with various prog bands performing some of those old Disney classics.
Here's some that I would love to hear "Part Of Your World" and "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid, peformed by The Flower Kings "Prince Ali (Reprise)" from Alladin, Performed by Arena "Beauty And The Beast" and "Be Our Guest", performed by H-era Marillion "A Whole New World" from Alladin, "Be Prepared" from The Lion King, and "Kill The Beast" from Beauty and the Beast, performed by Dream Theater "Hakuna Matatta" and "Circle of Life" from the Lion King, performed by Yes Pretty much any song from Mary Poppins performed by Pendragon can anyone else think of any Disney songs they'd like to hear their favorite prog artists perform? |

Tarzan by Phil Collins. Oh wait. That already happened. Sorry.
This is actually an interesting thought provoking thread. Much of the Disney music is quite symphonic, although less rock I'm sure the bands could make it work. When I was at Disney World a couple of years ago, I went to see a couple of their stage shows including Tarzan, and I remember thinking that the music was actually quite good, and at times almost progressive. No ideas from me, but I'd be interested to see what others come up with.
BTW, if I'm not mistaken the Tron soundtrack was from Journey, although I can't recall ever hearing it.
Edit: The soundtrack was from Wendy Carlos; Journey contributed the song Only Solutions, which I have heard, and 1990's Theme, which I don't think I have heard. Edited by rushfan4 - September 21 2008 at 09:34 |

Rethinking this IMHO all Disney songs should be redone by The Residents in the style of their first five albums.

Wow, this video is so psychedelic. I could see Gong covering it more than Magma or Gentle Giant. |

Definitely Gong. It is almost a Gongish tune already. I would have liked Frank Zappa performing (and singing) "Trust in Me" from "The Jungle Book". Edited by BaldFriede - September 29 2008 at 15:30 |

^Yeah, the song is basically an unnofficial Gong song.
About this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP1TzHbt7do I could definitely see it being covered by a RIO or avant-garde prog band. Especially the part where the skeletons actually dance. From 2:20 to the end seems to fit perfectly with some RIO. Samla Mammas Manna perhaps? Edited by Bern - September 29 2008 at 15:42 |
