This is the first I've heard of it. Very depressing news indeed. A great musician. RIP Rick and thanks for the untold hours of pleasure you have given me and countless others. You will be missed. Edited by The Doctor - September 19 2008 at 13:22 |

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I love Rick Wright, he is truly a giant of progressive rock. Us and Them, a wonderful track on a landmark album, typifies his thoughtful writing and unselfish playing.

I'm still a bit sad about this. He's one of the most influential musicians of our time. :(

I don't mean to sound flippant about this, but it seems like The Floyd is dying in the order of relevance. First Syd, who was out of the band at the beginning of the 70's...now Rick, who was in and out of the band during the late 70's and 80's...if the pattern holds true, Waters will be next, then Mason and Gilmour.
Unless it goes by contributions over the years, in which case it will be Mason, then Gilmour, and finally Waters. I expect this is more likely, as I can't imagine Waters going without having the last word. |

Yes !! I feel Sad also about Richard, he was such an integral part of Pink Floyd, at least he leaves behind a rich legacy of brilliant Music.
iv always really loved the real mellow stuff he use to duet on with Dave gilmour on albums like Meddle, Obscured by clouds, More and Atom Heart Mother, all truly outstanding albums...His presence will be missed!!! ![]() |

Its great they did live 8 and so don't have to have that sour 'no reunion,' topic that mars fans feelings towards older bands.
Also it was nice to see Roger had some very kind words to say. |

I'm afraid I've been out of the loop. I hadn't heard this news until I logged on to PA today for the first time in probably a couple of months.
I am listening to Dark Side right now in remembrance, sobbing like a schoolgirl. ![]() Thank you Rick for your incredible contribution to one of my favorite bands of all time. The Great Gig In The Sky will never sound the same again to me. R.I.P. ![]() |

I'm playing a club DJ gig on Saturday evening (I play electronica/chillout sets); whilst writing the setlist, I've managed to mix in Great Gig In The Sky mid-set... be interesting to see the reaction this gets...

Well gutted and sad.
Along with Syd at the beginning, it was Rick who made their sound - and he was so unassuming about it too. Now Pink Floyd can truly never be again - no Rick, no Floyd. Nice tribute by David Gilmour on Jools Holland show though - playing "Remember a Day" - only the second time live apparently - they did it really well Just play "Summer '68" and float... |
