Awful news. No mention of this on any of our news services yet, so thanks to ProgArchives for breaking the story here.

RIP Cry Broken China is sure to go for a spin tomorrow as are some Floyd records. A fantastic, stylish musician. Shine On is the last song I'll listen to today, one of his best moments no doubt.

Wow.

Terrible news. Always hoped for a reunion tour. He certainly left his mark in the world. Sad day in music.

RIP Rick. Will spin some Floyd albums for you tonight.

His influence ranges far and wide in prog, from electronic groups like Tangerine Dream, to the whole space-rock/prog sub-genre with groups like Hawkwind and Porcupine Tree, to name a few. I am so grateful that I saw PF in concert with Rick and Roger Waters in '75 and '79. His work on "Echoes," and on the beginning of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" will stay with me forever. To me he was always an underrated keyboardist, but I believe if it wasn't for Rick, the music would not be the same now. It's now his turn to shine brightly in the heavens. Cry

AND DON'T FORGET 'SYSYPHUS'!!

His solo input for the second half of "Ummagumma" is a delicious example of the introduction of avant-garde chmaber music in psychedelic rock in teh early stages of prog rock.

Talking about poneering moments, I'm sure this 4-part opus was a role model for many people soon to be part of the prog rock movement.

oh, how lucky!

I mainly have a VHS of their concert in Earl's Court, a friend in Germany recorded it live, but my family had to wait some time to purchase a VHS player. It was my initiation in Pink Floyd music, and it captures one of the most fabulous rock solos ever (Comfortably Numb, a track in which Wright sings Cry).

He was a great innovator. Not only progressive rock, many artists of the modern music in general have been influenced by his work in Pink Floyd.
Rest in peace

It's a sad day indeed.  I always hoped that one day I'd get to see the mightly Floyd live, and in the back of my mind I knew it would happen.  I guess now it never will...
