Not terrible but Far Corner are pretty uninspiring and NeBeLNeST's early albums a little uninspired too.

Jake, the thing is, someone out there will enjoy that!

Just throw in some Bassoon and get Kerman to play drums and you are the next American avant superstar!

I kind of liked Far Corner's newest album, although I only listened to it once. So I guess that proves your point?

Here's an interview from Expose with Udi Koomran, the engineer and producer for bands such as 5UU's, Ahvak, Sympozion and others.

I was a little disappointed with Wapassou from France, although their albums still are decent. Sounds like a combination between Mike Oldfield and Art Zoyd at times, but less interesitng to me. However, I haven't listened to their albums in a long time now..

I was able to get into Art Zoyd a bit more, listened to them a lot more yesterday.  As Henry stated on the last page, for all the emusic people who haven't yet checked them out, they have a great compilation of their first three albums on there.  Lot easier to get than trying to find CDs for sure.

I have the first two, but some of their CDs have proven to be really hard to find. They are pretty good though; I need to listen to them more.

Someone needs to set up a RIO music shop with nothing but floors of RIO/Avant music. That would be epic. LOL

I wouldn't mind working there though. That'd be awesome! Big%20smile

Plus, it would be like a PA-exclusive shop, since everyone who works there and many of those who visit would be from PA. LOL

Yes, fascinating!  Thanks! Smile  Net result: immediate playing of Ahvak in my office. Big%20smile  (And... reiteration of decision to purchase entire back catalogue of Present and start counting days to RIOfest. Embarrassed Tongue)

Examples of bad avant prog? Tough call, but I agree that the following are all somewhat underwhelming:

Far Corner
5UUs - with the exception of the rather spiffing Regarding Purgatories - although I like Bod Drake's solo work and most of Dave Kerman's projects a lot.
Nebelenest - who I also found a bit tedious live
Thinking Plague - on paper I should love them to bits, but somehow it doesn't work for me

and I would also nominate

Hamster Theatre - a great idea (avant bluegrass), but I just don't think they pull it off

Although I found all the above disappointing I wouldn't call any of them unlistenably bad, and they all have loyal fans who probably think my taste in music sucks.

I suppose it would be more of an institution than a shop, in that case... Confused LOL

Stumbled over a few excellent video's on YouTube featuring Daniel Denis and Andre Mergenthaler of Univers Zero performing live in Bruxelles, Luxembourg in 2007 as a drums/cello duo. Really brilliant stuff, and a rare opportunity to watch Denis' unique drumming closely!

The semi-Zeuhl Armenian band Zartong don't set the Zeuhl world alight but I still like them for their weird disco Zeuhl sound. LOL

Wow, I thought they were one of the more respected bands, too.  I really like them, though I'll admit even with that they're probably a bit lower on my favored artists list.  Definitely prefer Ahvak over TP, just to compare two Kerman projects.
