Don't put it this way to them (since they run the station), but how many college kids are tuning into the college radio station for the most popular music anyway? I'd think they'd either listen to mainstream FM if they even bother with the radio, and more likely they'll just be hitting teh torrentz or iTunes and throwing it all on the MP3 player. |

Caress of Steel and Permanent Waves would be next in line of progginess. ![]() |

I agree with Mike.
Rush are an Art Rock band but with 3 proggy albums. ELP are a prog band that are a bit pants. Kansas I don't know... but from what I gather, they're an Art Rock band with some proggy moments. Dream Theater are exactly as Mike describes. Besides, I'm getting annoyed at people who ask me if I listen to non-prog... 'cause I listen to plenty. I don't consider most of the jazz rock/fusion I listen prog at all... it's jazz rock/fusion! A lot of Canterbury Scene music isn't prog... most psychedelic music isn't prog. In fact, prog is a pretty small genre. |

Let's not have a fight in here about the progginess of this or that band - there's enough of that in the main lounges.
This is place of love and understanding. ![]() ![]() |

You're entitled to your opinions. Prog, to me, is an incredibly large genre/range of sound. It goes from Rush to VDGG to Meshuggah to Return to Forever to Henry Cow to Tangerine Dream to Emerson, Lake and Palmer. That alone is amazing. |

I'm not fighting. ![]() I agree with you that there is definitely enough of silly debates in the main forums, which is why I usually hang out here. |

Come on guys. You're discussing taste in here. Bad stuff. Can't change it. Own definitions and such things.
In here, we stick to a moderate amount of teasing when it comes to those things. Right? |

ELP suck... seriously.
I never plan to play Tarkus ever again. That's the only album I have heard but I am familiar with other tracks. I have to say, I prefer The Nice. |

A lot of stuff has progressive elements/influence, but "prog" isn't necessarily the first thing I think of when the band is mentioned. I don't want to argue about it, though, since it isn't really worth it.
I plan on playing some weird stuff but I probably won't start off too weird. We'll see , though. I'll let you know of any funny stories that inevitably follow any public exposure to prog rock. Now I'm going on a walk with someone I think, I may be on later hopefully. |
