^ It is funny that you say that because in my opinion I found the vocals on this album to be so horrible that it completely turned me off to VDGG.  I haven't listened to the album since my first couple of tries, so I should probably try again one of these days.  Especially since I found that I actually liked Aerosol Grey Machine.

well, to each his own. Hammill's the only vocalist who's able to pull off that sort of aggression, uncertainty and despair for me. Heard lots of classically pretty vocalists, but none of them have ever really connected as emotionally to my twisted mind.

You are certainly not alone.  I have read many times that VDGG fans consider Pawn Hearts to be their ultimate masterpiece, but that it is also the one that is termed the most difficult to get into.  And as of yet, I haven't got into it.  Hopefully, one day it will click with me.

The vocals are really good on this album, but probably not the best ever.  On the other hand, the album cover is the best cave art depiction album cover ever. LOLWink

I have only heard him on Rock Bottom and on the Wilde Flowers http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=32230&FID=51 and I hate to say this, but both sounded really "dated" to me.  I know that is kind of a weird thing to say on a site where the forum members, me included, mostly listen to music from the late 60's and early to mid-70's, but that is the impression that I carry with me after listening to those albums.  Both probably deserve new listens since it has been a while since I have listened to either of them.  I am really curious to hear his ComicOpera however since it is so highly spoke of within the forums.  How does the album that you are listening to compare with ComicOpera?

I do prefer this one CUCKOLAND to comicopera, but that's just me!Wink

Wilde Flowers for sure it's dated, this is from 1964-66 i thinkLOL

I have heard good things about MOON IN JUNE, but sadly I have yet to hear it.  I think that I have only heard 1 or 2 songs from Soft Machine, and both were quite jazzy sounding.  I've always only had a mild interest in jazz, so I have yet to explore Soft Machine further, in spite of all of the praise they receive here in the forums.  I must say though that as I get older I find myself enjoying jazz more and more, so it is only a matter of time before I start down the jazz band paths too.

Hrh. I'm still sort of surprised (after hearing Moon In June and a Matching Mole album) that Wyatt takes lead vocals. I mean, his voice isn't instantly wowing, and I don't think it's quite quirky enough to offset that. It is quite endearing, and a couple of the songs I just wouldn't want sung by anyone else, but it's still a surprise.
