I think the side 2 medley is one of the first prog songs ever, but I know some people don't... Just seeing what people think overall.Tongue

Yes indeed. I love listening to the 2nd half of Abbey Road. I get especially excited once the songs start really flowing together, like when "Polythene Pam" segues into "She came in through the Bathroom Window", and when "Carry that Weight" revisits the melody from "You Never give me your money".

However, others may feel differently. Boo.

Sort of. The medley may be seen as sort of proto-prog like The Who's 'A quick one while he's away'.
I think 'Here comes the sun' with its changes in time signature is more like a prog song. 'I want you (She's so heavy)' has a proggy feel too.

The medley is 16 minutes in total. I haven't really thought of it as a prog album before but I think it actually is, though not full blown progressive. Maybe thats because I grew up listening to the Beatles. So it comes down to a questioning of extent of the term prog, and my vote is between yes and sort of. The song sequence on side 1 is somewhat progressive too, ending with she's so heavy. Thank you for reminding me about this great album, I haven't listened to it for a while.

Perhaps they should have given the suite on the second side an overall title. Off the top of my head, say "Supper's ready".Lamp

IMO the only Prog or Prog Related album in the whole Beatles career.

And to be honest, the only one I really care about.

Ah yes... "The Sun King" Medley. Just love it! However, to my ears, "Because" just oozes Prog. Must be the harpsichord, the synth, the awesome harmony vox, or all three.

Hmm it pains me in a way to vote Sort Of, but that's what it is, as well as being one of the finest albums ever recorded.

From ' I Want you She So Heavy to the very prog like feature of the hidden track "'Her Majesty" is progressive to me.  The Beatles were always progressive to me. When psychedelic bands for example the Doors where using the guitar, drums and keyboards rock style the Beatles were creating their brand of psychedelic rock by using backward tape, Indian Instruments and droning, insane sample like tape loops, vocals through speakers and odd time signatures.

I Want You" She So Heavy" two separate section one bluesy and the second section almost proto-metal with avant sounding white noise and a jazzy backbeat with some Latin flavor.

"Here Comes the Sun" integrating Synth with a string section and with the solo section using some insane time signatures.

"Because" very proggish influenced by Bach.  Synth, Harpsichord and Guitar in unison with very choir like vocal harmony.

"You Never Give Me Your Money" four different sections. Many musical styles, vocal styles and guitar tones and then bleeding directly into "Sun King" which at times sounds like Pink Floyd “Us and Them".

Abbey certainly influenced Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. Paul McCartney and George Martin planned the last eight tracks to be played as one long track. Not a rock opera like the Who Tommy but more of hybrid of Sgt Pepper and side 4 of the Beatles White Album. Prog Rock to me in sections along with their pop/rock styling of songs like "Something" and "Come Together". God bless the Beatles

One of the few Beatles albums I truly enjoy.

Yep that second side is surely Proto-Prog! I agree with connection, and it's so great!

YES!
