I've always liked Adrian's style over the rest.

Adrian. No doubt. He's just more inventive and surprising, even though no shadow should be cast over Davy's technical prowess. |
Although some people might not agree with me, but I really see little difference between Smith's and Murrays ability. If you watch the Early Days DVD, the first performance from it in 1980, you will notice that Murray consistently makes out of tune bends, and his vibrato is sometimes a little nervous. Adrian nailed every bend, and his vibrato was simply just so much more effective and emotional. I tend to consider, not only speedy licks done in Legato, Alternate picking, sweep picking, and tapping to be apart of techique. but vibrato and bending are big factors too IMO, as it can sometimes mean the difference between making your other techniques more effective. So in this regard, I think Adrian has a slight technique edge over Murray (but I admit, Murray's bends cleaned up a lot in Brave New World, and his more recent live performances are more consistent IMO). |
I'm sure you're right in your analysis. I'm just a puny bass player , and haven't analysed it as much as you have. When soloing, it's always Adrian's parts that grab my attention the most due to the reasons mentioned above. He reaches out with a melody way more than I think Davy can. Agree?

All three are Maiden, and you cannot choose as they are so intricate to the sound.

Who in hell voted for Janick?
Adrian by far. Himself and Dickinson ARE MAIDEN.

Adrian..by far!!!
Great tone, lyrical solos, fast licks when they're appropiate, great vibrato and also a great songwriter.
The stuff he and Dickinson did in the late 90's (Accident of Birth + Chemical Wedding) wipe the floor with Maiden's entire post-'88 output, in my opinion.
An awesome musician.

Yes I agree with myself, all three are Maidens sound and they are all connected.
In second place is Dennis Stratton.

Easy. Who and why ? I vote for Adrian Smith, because his style is instantly recognisable, he always comes up with unexpected twists and turns in his solos, and his songwriting is great. |

Adrian Smith... He is the total package, a phenomenal lead and rhythm guitarist as well as a great songwriter.
