Well, I must depart temporarily. I will most likely be back at some point today, if not more than one point. Tongue

Take care, guys!

I haven't heard too much myself, just studied and I know that the influence correlates over. I'm not the most knowledgeable person of music pre-1960s. Wink

Well my next stage of musical discovery, will be contemporary music and especially avant-garde classical music.  I want to know where the sounds of Univers Zero and other bands came from.  It will hopefully give me a better understanding of things then.

Plus the more I know, the better any future reviews of mine will be. Big%20smile

If I had to go to college today, I'd probably get a big external HD, rip all my CDs to FLAC and just bring the HD to school.

Yeah I could do that, but I love my stereo way too much.  I could be bringing my turntable and a few boxes of LPs, too. LOL

But I'm too lazy to do that.  Bunging CDs into a box is much easier. LOLEmbarrassed

Do you realise how long it'd take to put my whole collection on Hard Disk?  Especially in FLAC format too... it could take days, perhaps weeks! Shocked

It would take a very long time - I speak from experience.  Wink

I download a lot, and put that stuff on my iPod so I can connect it to my amp.  Between that and the CDs, I'm going to have some pissed off roommates. Approve

Eventually I'm going to get a combo CD/FLAC player - it can use optical discs, but also read FLAC files from a HD and play them - some have very good A/D converters on them and for reasonable price.  I have a small room in the basement that I'm going to convert into "Dad's room" Tongue

Do any of you fine gentleman know anything about car stereos?

My 6 CD changer is pretty much dead... my CDs skip all the time.  So I'm thinking of buying a new Digital Radio/CD player but with a USB port on it, so I can play music from a memory stick.

I've been told that's possible.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Funny you should mention, I just got a new car stereo with an AUX IN port in the front so I could do a direct hook-up of my iPod.  Let me hunt around for some models with USB ports.

I don't have an MP3 player... so if it's possible to play music from a memory stick, then that would be great.

The only issue is... I like to play albums and I'll probably have issues finding where albums start.  I'm not a shuffle kind of guy. Ermm

Edit: forgot to mention... thanks Pat, that would be much appreciated!  Are US car stereos the same as UK ones?

It appears that any stereo that has a USB input will work for you; i.e. it can take a stick as the source.

On second thought, probably best if you do the hunting because you'll have to verify any stereo you find can be installed in your car (electronic/space considerations).

edit:  the models with USB inputs that I've seen can be pricey, about $200

I have a 2 gig memory stick (albeit broken but my brother is going to solder it up and make it work again)... that will hold a lot of music!

Maybe I'll get an MP3 player eventually, 'cause that'll give me more playing options, I should think.  As I said, I'm an album guy and hate shuffled music generally.

Edit: hmm well I hated swapping out CDs on my old system and eventually the bumping around of the car caused the CDs to jump.  Plus there won't be a big box under the passenger seat.  So the extra cost might be worth it in the end.  I'll try and peruse some websites.

John Jowitt is a bass guitarist known for his work with UK progressive bands IQ, Arena and Frost. He has been awarded the British Classic Rock Society's award for best bass player nine times, each year between 1993 and 1998 and again between 2002 and 2004.

So yes is the answer.
