In the USA I've gotta go with Nazz. On the British side I'd have to say The Move.

In small doses, Moby Grape - who were going to be THE GROUP TO WATCH, but Alexander Skip Spence liked his chemicals too much. Great Society, HP Lovecraft. However, there is the call for garage/psychedelia - so checking out my Pebbles compilations, I have this perverse enjoyment of Randy Alvey & The Green Fuz - their (Here Comes The) Green Fuzz single is so bad, it is good - and somebody tells me it was covered by The Tubes??.

The Pretty Things named themselves after a Bo Diddley song. The Move, Nazz, The Masters Apprentice(great Aussie band), The Five Americans, Bubble Puppy, 13th Floor Elevators, The Box Tops, Electric Prunes, Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, Seeds, Spirit, Love, Jethro Toe(45 only), Tomorrow,...too many to list. Most of my album collection comes from this genre and age.

The Allman Brothers band were the Allman Joys before they were the Hourglass. The Allman Joys mostly did covers of great Yardbirds tunes. Got to love the Yardbirds for helping create psyche.

In additional two the original Nuggets set and Nuggets II, there's an interesting Children of Nuggets set (Original Artyfacts from the Second Psychedelic Era (1976-1996)). Among the bands represented (I'm picking some of the more well know) are: Duke of Stratosphear, Bangles, Smithereens, Posies, and so on.
Can't forget to mention that ultimate garage band song, "Louie Louie"!

The Nuggets box sets seem to be creme dela creme of this genre - for warts and all, try the Pebbles series of single CDs.
And you take the words from my mouth: 'Louis Louis' - said it before marvel at the evolution of Don Gallucci from the probably inventor of that riff to what 3 years later coming up with some America's first prog album in the form of Touch - and then 3 years after that producing a punk classic(?) with the Stooges' second album.

I'm not alone with Randy Alvey - somebody tells me the Tubes covered that tune. I bought the first Love compilation LP in the late70's/early 80's, compiled by one of the best rock writers of the time John Tobler. John, who seemed to have some clout, insisted Elektra Records married 7 & 7, with the track Is 14 - as apparently Arthur Lee wanted originally. So ever since getting that album I can't hear 7 & 7 without its coda - perversely spread over two of the Love's remastered albums |

I got Nuggets, really awesome stuff. Some of the songs are pure classics while some are so bad their funny, making them great in their own way.

I'm a huge fan of psychedelic music of the 60's. I mostly listen to The Beatles, but I know some great songs by Jefferson Airplane, Donovan etc.. I also like The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. Not to mention the psychedelic songs by Pink Floyd (Arnold Layne, See Emily Play etc).
But one of the best psychedelic bands that I've heard is STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK. They are mostly known for their hit Incense And Peppermints (which is also the title of their first album as well as their compilation album), but they also have many other great songs. I would definitely like to buy their first album, but I can't find it anywhere! The only album I can find is their compilation album, and I'm not interested in that. Does ANYONE know where I can buy the debut album of Strawberry Alarm Clock (on CD)? |

First time I've heard those bands marked in red called 'garage-psych bands.'
I think the bands on the Nuggets boxset are closer to the mark, e.g. (although the Kingsmen are missing on this following list)

This looks like the place to get Strawberry Alarm Clock albums http://www.ccmusic.com/search.cfm?searchkey=STRAWBERRY%20ALARM%20CLOCK&bounce=y&searchType=artist
and go to the All Music Guide for more information on each of the available albums http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=STRAWBERRY|ALARM|CLOCK&sql=11:gcfyxq95ldfe~T0
I've seen some of them in Texas. Good Luck!!
