I thought you had already heard In Flames?
They were one of the earliest Melodic Death metal bands, part of the pioneering bunch of Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Carcass (you get what I'm saying).

I like Dark Tranquility, At the Gates, and Carcass more than In Flames though.

Yes, some of it, but half the album was boring as hell.

Seriously, there is a reason why most Arch Enemy fans just look the other way once you mention anything they did past 2001.
I've pretty much given up hope with them in terms of them releasing anything fresh sounding. Everything they release now just sound almost like In Flames and Dark Tranquility cover songs.

I really enjoy all of the albums with Angela. Rise of the Tyrant is a very, very good album too.

As the name Melodic Death Metal implies....... well Melodic death metal. It's death metal with melodic guitar parts.
You've heard Agalloch, that has elements of the "Gothenburg" Swedish metal sound in it.

So like Katatonia... only Death Metal?

Having said that, I've only heard the My Twin single and didn't like it. LOL

Well I didn't say that melodic death metal sounds like "Katatonia" with growls did I? There is similarities, but the pioneering early 90s melo-death bands all had their own signature sound.
The reason why I dislike the genre a bit now, is because their are too many bands that just ripped off the formula of the real deal pioneers.

It was the vocalist I didn't like on My Twin.

The second worst band from Sweden is Evergrey.  They're terrible!
