PRESS RELEASE…PRESS RELEASE…PRESS RELEASE…

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:       5tht AUGUST 2008

HAWKWIND

Cherry Red records and their imprint Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the acquisition of the entire HAWKWIND catalogue released between 1976 and 1997. The deal brings every Hawkwind album from “Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music” to “Distant Horizon”, together with all singles, EP’s and associated master tapes to the Cherry Red group who now hold full exclusive rights on these recordings for the world. The acquisition, undertaken with the full agreement of all past and present members of Hawkwind who appear on the recordings, also sees the launch of a new Cherry Red label, Atomhenge, upon which the catalogue will be reissued in full over the next eighteen months. Atomhenge will be managed by the team behind Cherry Red’s Esoteric Recordings imprint.

Atomhenge label manager Mark Powell said; “The acquisition of the majority of Hawkwind’s catalogue by Cherry Red is an exciting development. Hawkwind are arguably one of the most important and enduring British bands and their musical heritage is of considerable importance in terms of the history of British rock. The band has been cited as an influence by successive generations of musicians and to be given the chance to present Hawkwind’s recorded work in the manner it deserves is a privilege”. Among the albums brought to the label as part of the deal are many classic albums such as “Quark, Strangeness and Charm”, “25 Years On”, “Live Seventy Nine”, “Levitation”, “Sonic Attack”, “Choose Your Masques”, “Chronicle of the Black Sword” through to more recent works such as “Alien 4”, “Love in Space” and “Distant Horizon”. All of these albums will be released as expanded  remastered editions on the Atomhenge label over the next eighteen months and will include previously unreleased bonus material as all the associated master tapes form part of this acquisition. Cherry Red managing director, Adam Velasco added; “Most of this material has been unavailable officially on CD for a number of years and it is our intention to make the forthcoming releases definitive editions in terms of audio remastering (from the original master tapes), content and packaging”. To begin the Hawkwind catalogue campaign, Atomhenge will be releasing two newly remastered 3CD anthologies compiled from albums and singles covering the periods 1976 to 1984 and 1985 to 1997 on November 3rd 2008 as a precursor to the reissuing of the Hawkwind catalogue which will commence in stages at the beginning of 2009. A further announcement about plans for the catalogue will follow in September when the anthology series track listings will be finalised.

Probably live tracks, outtakes and/or remixes.

Or maybe rewrites. They`ve done that before. I`d like to hear some outakes from Electric TeePee or maybe some unreleased material with Briget Wishart. She left the band on a rather sour note so I wonder if she was consulted.

anyone wanting to keep up to date can join the mailing list at www.atomhenge.com. Once the releases kick off I will be doing a newsletter around once a month. Its an "opt in" list and there will be no list selling etc.

There wont be "re-writes" by the way  as it is a deal for albums and recordings within that period and being done by ourselves and not the band.

I think I may have misunderstood what was meant by re-writes. If its "earlier versions" of what was finally released we would of course consider these if they are of good enough quality.

Thanks for doing that, Esotericarts.Thumbs%20Up... i am sure a lot of fans like me can't wait!!

Are you able to tell us at this early stage if these reissues will be in digipack format, with original artwork or jewel case?   Will be kind of de-luxe sets or mid-budget releases? ?
Is D.Brock involved in the project? do you have all access to the ''vault'' of unreleased Hawkwind music ?
I know..so many questions!!LOL
Thanks

Hi guys

Will be having a draw next Wednesday (27th August) for 2 people to win  free copies of  titles released on Atomhenge-the new label for all the Hawkwind reissues we will be undertaking starting in November. .

This will be a "blind stab" draw from members signed up by that date to the Atomhenge mailing list.

The website and mailing list are at www.atomhenge.com

There will be a monthly update from Atomhenge on forthcoming releases and no lists are passed on etc.

Its an opt in list, so you will receive a "link" that you need to click on to activate the registration.

This is very good news, I was slowly collecting their discography.. but the price tag on, "Hall of the Mountain Grill" put a halt on it LOL

grrr... 1974, my struggles continue.  Still good news though.
