No, I'm a genius. It's just my reviews morph into something else when I post them on P.A.

I'll leave you with your delusions of grandeur and watch some X-files to clear my mind. That says a lot!

Awesome. Another thing I still need to hear, even though I have about 1000 CDs. I'm listening to Magma now. How are you doing?

Feelin' RIO as always!
1000 CD's? I though I had much at 670
And Fates Warning are awesome. One of my favorite Prog-Metal bands!

RIO is always good.

I'm still wondering why I haven't heard them yet. My favorite metal band is Dream Theater. I like Porcupine Tree even more, and other metal bands I like are Meshuggah and Opeth (though Opeth's first two albums don't do much for me). What specifically do you think I should check out?

Perfect Symmetry and Disconnected. Two of their best albums!
Also check out Zero Hour, if you haven't already. Similar to Awake-era DT, only a lot heavier. Towers of Avarice would be a good start!

One thing I'll never understand is why most Magma fans always forget to mention Attahk as one of their really good albums. I mean, it's pretty different from MDK, but isn't Kohntarkosz just as different? Listening to it now... Great stuff.

Attahk is very good indeed. Very overlooked!
I guess it's too "normal" for some fans

I guess I can see that more so instrumentally, but vocally I still think it's way out there (particularly Vander). The fact that a CD sounding like Attahk would be too normal to generate more praise really says something though. Out of curiosity, since you know more about RIO/Avant than I do... what bands can you think of are there that utilize bassoon? I'm curious if there are any I still haven't heard of before.

What bassoon related Avant bands do you know of already then?

Umm... let me think. Hopefully I won't leave out any that I've seen mentioned before but haven't listened to. Univers Zero and Henry Cow easily spring to mind first. (Gryphon as well, but they're prog folk). Those are the main ones. I also know that Art Zoyd and Comus did (I think), but I'm not too familiar with them yet. Are there any others that notably use it? I really like the sound, so I was hoping to find something that utilizes them as often as Gryphon, but I doubt that there are many out there, if any, that use it as often.

U Totem comes to mind. I only have their first, but it does feature a lot of bassoon.
Also, Combo FH, a very obscure RIO band heading from Czech Republic, uses bassoon a lot. Not available on CD though, but I can provide a little link for you if you want..
I love Gryphon, BTW!

They're really fantastic. I especially love all of Red Queen and the title track for Midnight Mushrumps.
I can't wait for their new CD!
