Not the purest form of prog around. But the black side of Queen II could be considered as one and marvellous epic.

Far too difficult to narrow down to 5 at the moment, but here are some doodlings where I lay down some tracks that could potentially fit the bill:
Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness - Green Carnation
Hinterland - Wobbler
Harvest Of Souls - IQ
Suppers Ready - Genesis
Echoes - Pink Floyd
A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers - VDGG
Nine Feet Underground - Caravan
The Gates Of Delirium - Yes
Into The Dream - Discipline
Zarathustra - Museo Rosenbach
Chupacabras - Phideaux
2112 - Rush
Mumps - Hatfield And The North
Apprentis Sorciers - Nemo
The Narrow Margin - IQ
Hamburger Concerto - Focus
Close To The Edge - Yes
The Sky Moves Sideways - Porcupine Tree
Awaken - Yes
Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
Histoires Sans Paroles - Harmonium
Dogs - Pink Floyd
9-29-045 - Green Carnation
Lady Fantasy - Camel
The Light From Deep Darkness - Eloy
Jordrok - Anglagard
Understandably....might take a while to sort through those fellas!

The whole of Still Life by VdGG.
I realise you don't want albums but all 5 songs are epic, so...

Still Life is excellent
but are they long enough songs to be epics?

1- THE GATES OF DELIRIUM (YES)
2- SONG FOR SCHEHERAZADE (RENAISSANCE)
3- DOGS (PINK FLOYD)
4- SUPPER'S READY (GENESIS)
5- CLOSE TO THE EDGE (YES)
It's a hard choice...I love all of them. But there is 5 more at the minimum... ![Wink Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

This has become some way very difficult, but I´m gonna try:
A plague of lighthouse keepers - VdGG
Close to the edge - Yes
Journey to the center of the earth - Rick Wakeman
Dogs - Pink Floyd
A change of seasons - Dream Theater
5 epics doesn´t fit my love for this kind of compositions. What about 10 or 20? ![Wink Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)

cities crash in the mighty wave;
the final man is very small,
plunging in for his final bathe

Pfeh. No longer sure what an epic is.
1. Les Porches Du Notre Dame (Maneige). See review. 2. A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers. See review. 3. Larks' Tongues In Aspic (pt. 1). See review. 4. You And I. See review. 5. Ys (Il Balletto Di Bronzo). See review.
Oh, and throw in a live version of Tarkus and Supper's Ready.

A new list coming to my mind:
Spock´s Beard - The great nothing
Transatlantic - All of the above
Yes - Gates of delirium
Pink Floyd - Shine on you crazy diamond (both parts)
VdGG - Pioneers over C (is it long enough to be considered as an epic?)
I´m missing some great others, but there´ll be some more lists soon

What about doing a Top 20 or 50 epics of all time with votes like the big albums thread. Each one chooses 5 and that's it

A find it to be a fine idea, but it could be very hard to choose only 5 as it is
now for me

I find it to be a fine idea, but it´s still hard to choose only five.Well,
at least, for me. Some of us would be in the same situation we are by now

2-land of nobody-eloy- the opening bass line turned me into prog and changed the way i listen to music forever
3-nine feet underground- caravan's best song..i never tire listening to this track and everytime it passes smoothly like few minutes
4-gravedigger-janus-the most haunting epic i ever heard..chilling, sad, and utterly beautiful
5-shine on your crazy diamond-pf-probably the most famous of them all..the best tribute ever given to someone..genuis..

- Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons
An epic with great sound, performance and unprecedented flow. Beautifully written, arranged and put togeteher. Almost their finest hour.
- Yes - Close to the Edge
For everything already mentioned by others.
- Pink Floyd - Echoes
Beautiful and ethereal epic prog space blues at it best, and the climax in the middle has to be the best ever on an epic yet.
- Rush - 2112
Most kick-ass hard rockin prog epic ever.
- Porcupine Tree - The Sky Moves Sideways
Beautiful and ethereal, while modern and driving at the same time. Steven Wilson's early peak.
Honorary mention:
- Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Iner Turbulence
Absulutely amazing, but musically perhaps too much derivative of other bands
NOT considered:
- Genesis - Supper's Ready
For the horrendous Willow-f*****-Farm segment

Noooooo!!!! That would be "Anesthetize"!!! ![Wink Wink](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif)
Otherwise, we would have to address Def Leppard's prog credentials ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif)

Yes!!!
An all time classic epic!
I guess most people (me included) think of Maiden as prog-related and not fully "prog", perhaps?
Cheers.-

My Top 5 would come from the following shortlist. Why? Because they're all brilliant.
Yes - Awaken (the ultimate in prog?)
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Glass Hammer - Further Up and Further In
Flower Kings - Stardust We Are
Yes - Gates of Delirium
Flower Kings - I Am The Sun
Glass Hammer - Behind The Great Beyond
Todd Rundgren's Utopia - Theme From Utopia
IQ - The Seventh House
Spock's Beard - The Great Nothing
Pink Floyd - Shine On
ELP - Karn Evil 9
Transatlantic - All Of The Above
IQ - The Last Human Gateway
