Topic: Acoustic-Electric Guitars Posted: July 26 2008 at 15:01 |
Does anyone know of a relatively cheap acoustic-electric that they would recommend for
around $200-400? Most of the cheaper ones that I played at Guitar
Center sound terrible.

I take it you are talking about semi-accoustic electrics in the Gretsch type model. Unfortunately you will probably find it difficult to get a semi-accoustic in the this price range that will sound good- you may be better off looking for a second hand one. edit: delete your other double post from the post options icon. I've noticed the server sometimes crashes when posting and have done the same myself.

I got an acoustic/electric Ovation that cost about $375 and I would NOT recommend them, used to be called their Applause series, they're poorly made and don't play or sound much better (the bloody nut popped out while I was playing it ) ..more or less I've found you get what you pay for, and an a/e guitar under 400. may play OK for awhile but it won't be reliable long term, in fact I'd think you could get a better acoustic or electric for the same price

Generally at that price point there is not much good guitars anyway, be it acoustic, bass, electric, whatever. Best to save your money up Preq and go for something at least double that price range.

they make great guitars, but their low-end models are awful and to be avoided

Have you looked into any Ibanez's in the 300 - 500 range? I played one I think in Guitar Center and it sounded great.
What do you think of Mike's Dean? just another suggestion.

Nope.
Mike's Dean...the "Dean" ruins it for me.

Do you have an electric? What about just getting an accoustic modelling pedal. Behringer make a good one. I notice your avatar is DT. Petrucci uses this to get his accoustic sound (live, anyway).

Oh ok. I know deans aren't your thing. I may be going to guitar center soon so I'll see if I can find the good one and get the name for you.

Yeah, but sometimes I want that clean acoustic sound without plugging in. Thanks though, I'll look into it.
