Punk rock was amazing fun back when I were a lad - and there's more than a few other posters on here who'd agree with me. Pistols aside, which punk bands do you rate?

It's cool that at least some prog fans like punk as well, for most people of my age group, punk and post-punk was the beginning of their musical education. I think the Miracle shoud check out some of the NY late 70's stuff, e.g. Television 'Marquee Moon', Pere Ubu 'Modern Dance''new picnic time''modern dance'. It gets lumped in as post-punk, although it developed independently (both bands had been on the go prior to 1976, and Television worked with Brian Eno). Musically, these bands owe more to beefheart than the ramones.
Then again maybe you have and still dont like it, and fair enough in that case!

do you class the DC punk/hardcore scene in with general punk rock? the 80s was a pretty exciting time in DC for that kind of music...minor threat etc. leading into fugazi. I'm not a massive fan these days, but fugazi deserve a lot of acclaim and respect.

The End by the Doors is practically prog
My fave punk bands are the Damned and the Stranglers.
Fine, aggressive music

These days I was thinking about hardcore and prog music and I find out
that both were made with the same reason. To contradict to f**king POP
music.

Punk is still fun! I love my Dead Kennedy's, Black Flagg, Sex Pistols, Discharge or (early) Ebba Grön (Swedish band) etc. It's soooo different to prog, but never the less, I wouldn't like to be without it.
