I was going to buy that Etron Fou Leloublan box but decided not to... I think I want all their albums separately. I already have "Batelages". Sorry, randomly thinking out loud there.  Edit: the heat is getting to me... my spelling and grammar is terrible at the moment

40-50 minutes is ideal. The good thing about vinyl is the break in between sides makes me get up and flip the album, which can reset my attention span - even double albums require 3 breaks in between. Compared to most my peers, who can't sit still for a 6 minute song, I'm not too dissatisfied with my ability to pay attention.
La Faulx live is amazing, it's a bit longer and definitely seems quite different in parts, more percussion and stuff, but I haven't compared to directly to the Heresie studio version so it's hard to say. The recording quality on it is great though, and I wouldn't even suspect it to be live judging from that!

Sounds good, but since I have Caution Radiation on the digipak CD (with a horribly translated liner notes!), it would make sense to just buy the other three separately. I also want to buy Art Box, but I have their three albums on LP so I probably won't, pretty steep price too and I really want to hear the miscellaneous tracks.

Excellent. I need that in my stupidly large - yet not large enough - CD collection.
Strangely for me A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers goes really quickly for 20+ minutes of eargasmicism.
Yet something like La Faulx or Jack the Ripper, seem to take a lot longer... yet are just as enjoyable.
Strange how that works.

Yes, I didn't read the liner notes too closely when I first listened to it, and didn't realise it was a live track until the applause... It's a great piece, I'm looking forward to getting 'Heresie' and hearing that version...

my recent favorite bands: Univers Zero, Animal Collective, Stereolab, Tangerine Dream, Radio Massacre International, Brian Eno, electronic and ambient stuff in general, Peter Hammill (been trying to get more of his studio albums, have a ways to go), etc. So it's been pretty varied I guess, anywhere from indie (although Animal Collective is quite weird and Stereolab is immensly Kraut inspired, listen to Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements, it's like modern Neu!, but not regressive or anything) to RIO.

They're about equal in my opinion, in fact I'm listening to La Faulx live now, but Jack the Ripper and the third song which I forget the title too are excellent. Jack the Ripper seems to be considered their best song, but I enjoy it and La Faulx about equally. I'm looking forward to blasting Univers Zero in my college dorm at night.

Anyway, I think it's a must for any avant-rock fan!

Whenever I listen to Univers Zero at night on my bed on the stereo, I can't help but think of these really vivid fantasies of mysterious cult evil sorcerers getting together in the woods and jamming.

I saw on your RYM that it's one of the few albums you gave 5/5, out of the 539484893984398294 you owned so that inspired me (although there was a few months lag time before finally getting it). Plus meeting Dave Kerman at NEARfest and talking to him a lot and only really being familiar with Present before made me want to check it out too.

Yeah, but there is still non-obscure RIO I haven't checked out so it will be a while. Plus there are a lot of other genres I'm into, if I focus on one thing I tend to lose interest after a while (this happened for Rush and prog metal, although I never focused on prog metal it used to be one of my favorite genres).

I'd like to recommend a stunning album I've come across by Danish band Svartbag and their s/t album.
Fantastic experimental/ambient/electronic/avant/drone/psych...

A.REX and Niels Ladefoged founded Svartbag in 2002. The musical inspiration is based on a profound interest in early minimalists, noise, British shoegaze and early German kraut-rock. The band later expanded to three members with Peter Kyed on treatments (real-sound, drones and electronic beats) and occasionally four with Andreas Hauer-Jensen (Dureforsog, Ordklover, Mit Nye Band & Alle med Balloner og Terrasser) on drums.
