It was.  Absolutely loved it.  I nearly fell off my couch when Colbert started reading the By-Tor lyrics.

I missed that. I'm going back to the CTV site (the Canadian TV network that he's on) . I just watched segment 3 & 4, along with the opening.
"Here I am talking to some of the smartest people in the world and I didn't even notice,” Lieutenant Columbo, episode The Bye-Bye Sky-High I.Q. Murder Case.

Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon (I'm on holiday, of course!) watching Rush viedeos on Youtube. And I'm proud to say that Geddy gave his best vocal performance of the last tour in Milan! Just listen to what he could do in "Freewill"...

(poor sound quality, but check out for the high-pitched part after the guitar solo...)

Since I was on vacation this weekend I missed the posts on the Stephen Colbert show, but I am in agreement that that was one of the best and funniest things that I have seen on TV in a long, long time.  I definitely split a gut and rolled on the floor laughing at some the things that he said and asked and of course their answers.

I received this email the other day regarding an alternative release of Working Man:

By popular demand Rush will release “Working Man” (Vault addition) on iTunes available for download July 22nd, 2008.

The version features a never before heard guitar solo that Alex Lifeson did during the original recordings back in the 70’s.  The song was re-mixed by Rich Chycki who is known for his work on R30 and Snakes & Arrows.

A great addition to the Rush song library!

that sounds really interesting; ive heard whats (apparently) billy sheehan soundchecking with peart and lifeson in place of geddy, so hearing them as a quartet would be even cooler. know where i should snoop around if i want to hear it?

Actually, I thought I've heard most available boots by Rush, especially these very rare jams and studio out-takes. I do believe that it is Billy Sheehan, not Jeff Berlin, recorded in a 20 minute sound check jam, while Mr. Big was opening for Rush. I hope I am wrong though.

However, Peart did play drums for Berlin on one of his albums. So should a jam with Berlin and Peart exist, I would be very interested in checking out. Wink

I think I have seen the Billy Sheehan jam session which was cool.

Seeing Neil play for Berlin with Terri Nunn out in front would be pretty wild.

From the DPRP website http://www.dprp.net/news/index.php?i=2008_33

A posting on the Rush fansite www.rushisaband.com has revealed a rumour that Rush is about to parts ways with Atlantic Records, even going so far as to reveal that Rush are in negotiations with Rounder Records. It also states that in tying up their dealings with Atlantic Records, Rush will be releasing a final album "Rush: 1989-2009" featuring some previously unreleased tracks and some studio tracks from the last 20 years.

I didn't think Rush ever recorded material that they did not release.  Should be interesting.

It appears that the entirety of Moving Pictures is going to be released for RockBand, but it is delayed.  I received this email:

The Rockband Moving Pictures downloadable content release has been postponed.  Here is the official statement from MTV Games:

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen technical difficulties, we won't be able to release Rush's "Moving Pictures" this week.  We'll be working on it as hard as we can, but it looks like it could be a couple of weeks to fix.  In the meantime we will be moving around our schedule so we still have DLC coming out each week (including this week, info to follow in another announcement).

The Snakes and Arrow Live DVD will be released in late fall 2008.  Stay tuned to RUSH.COM for more details in the coming weeks!

It's not 40 years already. They just celebrated their 30 year.

Alex and Geddy have known each other and formed the first incarnation of Rush in 1968, but their  first album was 1974 so I think that that is traditionally the anniversary that is counted.
