Bought and played last night - Very good for a first/second listening. Question - Why is it metropolis Pt 2 what is part One? if there is one!

So what is the next CD in their discography that is like the first 10/15 minutes (Fantastic metal/prog).

This forum has served me well so far - Thanks to all who recommended Metropolis - It's broadened my mind to the viability of prog/metal so whats next?

yup. in my opinion this one is the best concept album of dream theater. this is a must have. i believe it's even better than metropolis, though many people may not agree.

And if you like Dream Theater,Swinton you should definitely check out Nightwish. I think they make DT sound downright lethargic these days,I think they are without a doubt the best symphonic/prog/metal band in the world at the moment and yet they are not in the Prog Archives listings!

Ihink you wont find nightwish, because nightiwish is what we call power metal.

If anyone had a t least read my "the division line" post we would be having a pretty conversation about this

Nightwish are power metal yes, AND symphonic metal AND progressive metal. That's my point, they are all these things.

Dream Theater is THE band that spread the word about prog-metal but many good bands followed the same path :

Angra (Andre Matos era)

Evergrey (Tom Englund has a really unique voice)

Ice Age (the voice is similar to Saga's Michael Sadler's and the music a cross between earlier Rush and Dream Theater)

Enchant ('Wounded' is a metal-prog album)

Fates Warning ('Perfect symmetry' and 'A pleasant shade of gray' are essential albums for anyone who wants to broaden his prog-metal collection)

Pain of Salvation

Also worth checking out :

Watchtower : 'Control and resistance', a kind of technical thrash-metal with the very talented Ron Jarzombek on guitar.

I second or third the proposal that Nightwish (best new band I heard for some time) should be in the Archives.
