Hi guys,

We are testing a new feature to preserve server processing time by adding CACHING to the ARTIST and SUBGENRES pages for 60 minutes.

So basically theses pages will reload from the server and databases every 1 hour. Reviews and changes in theses pages won't be visible during that "cached" period.

Please report any issues here.

Max, working hard to make PA a better place to surf.... ;-)

^ I've had a lot of experience with caching ... maybe you can check if there's a way to invalidate the cache when a review is submitted? Then new reviews would be visible immediately, and you could increase the interval even further. If this is not possible, you should add a statement to the review textarea, so that people know that they'll have to wait a little bit (something like "please note that for performance and security reasons it will take a little while for your review to appear on the artist and album pages").

BTW: Maybe it would even make sense to add the caching to the start page. Even a caching interval of 5 minutes should increase the performance a lot, since I assume this page is requested very frequently.

Thanks Mike, I have cached the HOMEPAGE 5 minutes and the server is really performing better now (more active users on the FORUM) and more WebSite connections simultaneous.

I will have a check for the Clear Cache on Review Posted ... and let you know !

I was already using caching for the TOP100 on the homepage and flushed when review were posted, but know I use another CACHE function, that cache the WHOLE HTML PAGE so ... i need to do some research about it.

Thanks again

I should have checked this before adding Jannick Top's new album to the database... it wasn't showing up on his page and so I added it again.

Now there's two versions of the album on the database.

Would an Admin be so kind and delete this one?

Cheers and apologies for the error! Embarrassed

M@X.. Mike...all the technical sh*t is beyond me...  so is that the way is to be?... new additons will not show immediately but as some sort of hourly update?.. if so.... let the people know or we might have lots of multiple additions.  This section is not exactly the VR you know LOL... not everyone will catch word of what is going on.

^ give M@x some time to sort it out ... caching is definitely a good solution for the archives. Once M@x figures out how to reset the cache when reviews or albums are added to the database, everything will work as it used to, and the server will not waste processing power on building pages from scratch which haven't changed since the last time they were requested.Smile

Do note JFF posts no longer show up in the Top 10 posts, so there's now more of a chance of people seeing these type of threads. Wink

The HOMEPAGE caching is not active anymore so the reviews are posted LIVE on the front page.
I'll try to keep it that way

Does it really matter? Even if the cache reset every 24 hours, that's not all that long to wait and a small price to pay for the site not crapping out every other minute.
