I went to see the Australian Pink Floyd, and they were awesome. I have heard of others - like Think Floyd, Over the Wall.
Which do you think is best? Or which ones are good, which are bad? |

Aussie Floyd is the best! Though I've only heard two tribute bands. Aussie one and one very good from Argentina called The End.

I'm with you Slarty. I can't imagine giving half a w**k about a tribute band....for any group. If you can't see the real thing for whatever reason, go out and find a current band to be enthusiastic about. There are so many good, often struggling bands who could use some support. |

^ Don't agree, sorry. This is why: I think if you can't see the original why don't see a live band that plays heck as similar. I love Pink Floyd, and I went to see Aussie Floyd and they were fantastic. Of course it's another thing, I'll never shout: "Hey I went to see Aussie Floyd!". but still hearing live your fave songs from a fave band though being played by another band, I care a damn. Pink Floyd is dead, so there's no other way to see their songs performed live, living it live, without paying a tribute band.

Cacho, the material is meaningless coming from other people (to me.) Before I would see Aussie Floyd I would invest in Pulse or Live London or The WAll DVD and crank it up on a good home theater system. At least its the artist, if not....in the flesh (pun intended.) Covers in general interest me not at all. We'll have to disagree on that one.
But we are sadly lacking a good live Floyd DVD from the '73-80 period. I honestly don't know what they hell those two are waiting for (Dave and Rog). Get it out of the vault for chrissakes. I'm sure on that we both agree!! ![]() |

Thank you for your thoughts. You are right - the best is Pink Floyd - I fully agree - but I just can't get to go see them anymore.
I heard someone say once "the only way to fully appreciate a band is to see them live" With Pink Floyd - and many other Prog bands of old - this leaves us with tribute bands ![]() |

I don't agree, sorry ![]() But as you said, Pink Floyd is lacking of their magnum opus' albums live DVD's. Before watching the mediocre Pulse or Live London, I prefer to see Aussie Floyd giving a hell of a show as Pink Floyd does just without the amazing show of lights, etc. The only good DVD's IMO are The Wall and Pompeii. But Pompeii isn't really a concert so it really doesn't fullfil what this thread talks about, live perfomances. And The Wall, well, it' The Wall, it's not something that apeals you, since it's not the album from them you play often, generally. We don't agree, but it's not something really to agree, neither, right? ![]() |

Depends whether you are into hero worship of listening to great live music. I've see Floyd live at Earl's Court (twice) and The Aussie Floyd at several venues and there isn't much between them musically. The original Floyd are never likely to tour again so if you like hearing that music played live then see the Aussies. Similarly Re-Genesis and the Musical Box; Genesis do not play Gabriel era stuff but these two bands do (did) and for my money were actually more competent on a good night.
Let's grow up a bit. Beethoven doesn't tour any more but I've no objection to enjoying someone playing his music.

Oh no, you're not alone...
I've seen them twice (their last two European tours). Their concept is a bit similar to the one of The Musical Box in the way that they play one (or more) studio albums in the exact running order.
The first show was "Animals" + a "best of "part (we could vote before the concert amongst the whole list of Floyd's songs). We got "Echoes", "SOYCD", "One Of These Days", "Astronomy Domine", "Welcome To The Machine" etc. (would you beleive that even "Money" was played). A great night!
The second show was "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" (yes, the entire "Wall" stuff).
During one occasion, they played for SIX hours!!! I wish I was (t)here!
I missed The Australain PF twice. Maybe next time.

I think Gilmour's Floyd was already some kind of a tribute band...Not when i listen to the good ''division bells'''......but PULSE does definitely the trick! ah! life without Roger!

I saw Roger Waters live in Manchester UK in 2002. I can honestly say I have seen The Floyd even without my personal hero Rick Wright. That is the closest you will get to Pink Floyd. Try see Roger....

I've seen Aussie Floyd, liked them too. They performed DSOTM in full, and I thought it was really funny that the bassist only sang on Brain Damage and Eclipse!! True to the original.
I also saw Think Floyd. They were very impressive too. They also played the full version of Shine On, even parts 6-9, which you wouldn't expect from the real Floyd too often. Spoke with the band after, a really nice set of guys.

there was a local cover band called Echoes of Pink Floyd who did a pretty awesome job from what i heard them play. sax left a little to be desired but overall very very good. they played all of echoes too which im upset that i missed but that in itself is impressive. they played 2 hours of material and did all of DSOTM, which i saw. pretty good, if anyone from the detroit area has any more feedback. it was a tiny tiny venue and wasnt meant to be anything more than just a small event but i really enjoyed myself.
totally agree with cacho on this one. who cares!?! its floyd music being played live! i had fun and would totally go to more cover concerts. Edited by keiser willhelm - August 28 2008 at 01:22 |

THink Floyd is epic. Seen em 3 times, all here in Milwaukee, once last summer before seeing Roger Waters, which obviously blew Think away, but then again twice this summer, they were really great. As close as you'll get to the real thing live.
