Just ordered Yolk - Yolk and Amygdala - Complex Combat from wayside

He's one who's really hard to pin down. Three genre tags which first come to mind are: Avant-garde, jazz and minimalist. I'm not sure if that is any help, considering his later works have a different sound, if you like your sax I could suggest Sax Pax for a Sax which is a neat little number. I'm no real expert on him, just got a few album here and there, but those two albums I mentioned would be  good starting point. BTW, he's blind.

Yolk is pretty cool if you like uptempo slightly zeuhl inspired avant.  B/B+ from me (****)

It's self-titled.

I also got Amygala's Complex Combat (sorta zeuhl), but it wasn't very good.

The middle of the album is the best; the opener and closer are among the weaker material, and I'm guessing you heard the opener.

It's really not worth it, and the drums have nothing to do with it. (re amygdala)


And yeah, I can see not liking Yolk, but they're pretty cool.  Definitely worth checking out, especially for a Koenji fan such as listennow

Ah yes, it's interesting to note how polar opposite Antoine de Caunes and Steve Davis are, yet both are stalwart Magmaites. 

Let's just hope for our sakes, Jean-Paul Gauthier is not a fan... imagine Vander wearing some of his abominations!

Anyhow, good to see some debates here.  I have the new Amygdala and have yet to give it a spin.  I didn't dislike the debut but I do support your thoughts re: lack of drums and bass.

I will let you know my thoughts on the new release once I've heard it.

I've just listened to a Video Aventures album (actually their EP with extra tracks) and I must say it's very good.  Plus my new vocal discovery Han Buhrs randomly turns up on a track as well (he's friends with Guigou Chenevier).

Next up will be their full-length LP.

I haven't bought any CDs for quite some time either.  I've kind of steered away from music for a while but now I'm returning back to it again slowly.  Besides, I have a backlog of unlistened to CDs to play!
