I hadn't heard Matching Mole second in 2006, Cesar. I guess I prefer it to their debut now that I have. Rock Bottom is still my favorite. I would have made place for Cos (one of my favorite bands, for the two last years) and Moving Gelatine Plates as well.

And so my friends, CARAVAN is once more confirmed as the most overrated Canterbury band ever, and SUPERSISTER as the most underrated band in both canterbury and general prog terms.
 
... and where is matching Mole's second album?

Caravan: for girls
National Health:  Of Queues and Cures
Gong: YOU
Soft Machine to many to choose from but I go this time with 6
harfield and the North H&N
Egg: The Polite Force
Matching Mole" matching Mole well both albums are great.

I quite like the Canterbury Scene... my favourite band from the lot is probably Gong, but Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom is most definitely my favourite album. I'm in love with it.

I wouldn't even know how to choose a "best", to be honest.  Ends up being a lot of apples v. oranges comparisons.

Rotters club and In the land of the grey and pink are classic remasters. Some of the bonus tracks are great. I don't care for Gong. I have Flying teapot and Angels egg and I thought they were pretty weak compared to most 70s prog

From a more objective point of view: either Caravan's In The Land Of Grey An Pink or Hatfield's Rotters' Club. Caravan's album is the first Canterbury masterpiece IMHO, but Hatfield perfected the Canterbury sound and arguably they made the ultimate Canterbury - album.

The Hatfield's are my favourite Canterbury band so I vote for the Rotters Club.

When I started collecting  Soft Machine Volume 2 was the only Canterbury album available in the UK from a UK label/distributor, followed by the undistinguished eponymous Caravan album if you could find it  - If I could Do It Again I'll Do It All Over You was a quantum jump for the band. Frustratingly Soft Machine's eponymous first album was only available as a US import into the UK.

It is a very enjoyable album, and it was my introduction to Canterbury Scene music.  Hatfield and the North followed Caravan (unless one counts Camel).  I'm curious to know what the other three albums you've heard from the list are.
