Jump the shark refers to an episode of Happy Days where "The Fonz" jumps a shark while waterskiing. It basically is when a show runs out of gas/ideas or just becomes bad.

There is a website www.jumptheshark.com  that lists TV shows and fans can vote on when a TV show became bad.

But I've somehow managed to NOT watch the damn show by either changing the channel if I'm watching TV; reading if my wife is watching it, or at times just going down to the basement and playing guitar. Mind you, for some, actually using their freedom of choice, or worse, allowing others their own freedom to choose, seems to elicit inane remarks that try to position one as somehow superior because one is above & beyond even tolerating such trifling entertainment. Did I mention that that is what Idol is ? Entertainment ! Did I really need to ?
