I never understood the draw to this show. A big popularity contest which in the end someone wins and then has a mediocre singing/music career.(for the most part, there are exceptions) There are far more talented and deserving people that play music weekly in local clubs that deserve the attention more than these people do.

LOL The Happy Days reference is too funny LOL This was the year they jumped the shark with not only the Love Guru plug but also the whole boxing intro they did the other night. Cheesy TV getting even cheesier.

This show is an insult to intelligence. The people who watch this show for reasons other than laugh fodder are an insult to humanity.

No offense to anyone here who watches it.

Wait....

Yes.

Stop watching now or you're brain my never be able to form sentences again.

That was a sentence, I believe. An incoherent one, perhaps.

And you're wrong because I just formed two perfectly sentencely sentences. Approve

My wife loves that crap and I just try and steer clear.  She was watching the Tuesday finale and comes running into the bedroom telling me she will have to rewind so that I can see the great showdown between the two.  I told her she most certainly did not need to rewind but she made me watch it.  My ten year anniversary is coming up and I know I am dead meat since I have no idea what to get her so I had to at least go through this I suppose.  Torture

American Idol is great... that is if you like cut-and-paste vocalists covering bad songs.

I am so tempted to post one word (bad), but not sure if this would be toleratedWink

OK, what do I think of it? What I watched was music I don't like sung with normal voices. The talents are omitted to the good-looking ones, and who knows honestly without looking it up who won the first season and how his first album is named? They come from nowhere, shine a bit, and return to obscurity.

Who is the woman on the panel for American Idol? Is it Paula Abdul? I'm still waiting for her to turn to someone and say 'Look, you're sh!t, getta outa here and stop wasting my time' She just cant be nasty. You could go on there and fart the theme tune from CHiP's, and she'd still cut you some slack.

It's an awful show, but it's popularity, just like that of the UK original 'Pop Idol' speaks volumes about what people want to watch at prime time. Put it this way, they dont want to see a bearded jester in a cod piece playing old folk tunes on a Hammond organ, or some guy with a mullet playing a twin neck guitar. They want to see good looking boys and girls trying to impersonate Justin Timberlake, or Beyonce.

I blame Rupert Murdoch and his minions for this travesty. People at one time said that TV was the vast wasteland. Rupert has made it so.

Oh my God, are you just awakening to the major threat that this TV show is to Earth's civilization ? Have you not read about the enormous death toll resulting from the immense viewership of this show that has been buried by the media ? You are surely aware that even the U.N. has proclaimed this the greatest evil that humanity has faced during its' entire existence. I mean, how long before the revolution begins and the TV studios are stormed with no mercy spared for the audience, judges, and contestants ?
Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooooooooopppppppppppssssssss !

I just remembered. This is mass media mainstream entertainment. One that many enjoy. Not that I care for it. But I've somehow managed to NOT watch the damn show by either changing the channel if I'm watching TV; reading if my wife is watching it, or at times just going down to the basement and playing guitar.
Mind you, for some, actually using their freedom of choice, or worse, allowing others their own freedom to choose, seems to elicit inane remarks that try to position one as somehow superior because one is above & beyond even tolerating such trifling entertainment. Did I mention that that is what Idol is ? Entertainment !
Did I really need to ?
"Here I am talking to some of the smartest people in the world and I didn't even notice,” Lieutenant Columbo, episode The Bye-Bye Sky-High I.Q. Murder Case.
